ADLs Comments on Revenues

Last report, we mentioned that the industry Is still growing as there is a big proportion of Netizens waiting to be convinced about buying coupons from online. Never did we imagine it to grow so fast though. The industrys revenues have grown to more than 7 million from 4.5 million last month in accordance to our analysis last month. Of course there are two reasons which the growth can be attributed to. One, we have increased the number of sites being monitored to 36 from 28. Two, More travel deals are being introduced out. With over 40 deal site in tiny Singapore, the market is sure overcrowded. In our last report, we have mentioned the deal scenes have uniquely segmented itself in Singapore into Goliaths, Davids and The Soldiers.(as Featured in ADLs Guide to Group Buying)

This month we witnessed a huge leap in the revenues of the two biggest players (Goliaths-Deal & Groupon) as competition intensified over the No.1 position in Singapore. They had brushed off competitors by shifting a gear up in introducing more valuefor-money deals with more travel deals being delievered. Interestingly to note, though Outlet, Bigdeal, and StreetDeal have secured their Davids positions, there are some up and coming sites that is noteworthy. These are ATCrazy,ShiokDeal and AllDealsAsia (whom had started their own deal site this month) with over 100k revenues. Lastly, 4 of the sites have also gone inactive and ADL hereby hope that they can make a comeback soon. (like what SGdeal did)

ADL Comments on Deals

Comparing to the previous month of the total deals delivered, there was a SIGNIFICANT jump in the figures. It had increased to 825 from 528 (reverse of 528 is 825, spooky). The reasons behind the jump are similar to the factors behind the growth in revenues. In the month of May, travel deals revenue account for 46% of the total industry revenues. In terms of proportion, it had decreased from 79% last month. In the travel deals hosted, we realized many are specifically targeted at the June holidays peak season, which had attracted more customers to buy in the month of May. However it is still the main driver behind the big deal sites (most notably being Deal.com.sg) We also saw a increase in the Beauty and F&B segment (good for the consumers), with a particular star F&B Deal attracting an exceptional amount of buyers in the month of May (Refer to Record Breakers). As mentioned in the last report, F&B deals are always a good strategy to remove any inertia the customer holds for a new site as F&B deals are attractive and lowly priced. If coupled, with a star merchant, it can work wonders just like what SGdeal did with their Yoshinoya deal. Interestingly, we see a drop in the Health and Retail sector. Health refers to mainly health check or yoga deals (e.g chiropractic checks) which consumers might find it not as appealing. Retail refers to discount vouchers which they can redeem for percentage off their shopping bills. Normally, retail deals sell well but it had decreased maybe due to the limitations of technical implementations which might not be worthwhile when compared to the number of coupons sold. As usual, ADL hopes deal sites can find the right mix of deals to cater to a broader base of customers, increase customer loyalty and profit maximization.
