C&I 210 Child Growth and Development Health Education Poster Presentation (Objective C) 60 pts Due: See Course Schedule
In this course, we are examining various domains of child and adolescent development. Health or health-related issues interact with many factors of development. As teachers, we must be aware of how these health-related issues affect the students in and out of the classroom. We must also think about how we can educate our students on these various health issues. For this assignment, you will prepare a poster presentation based on an assigned health education topic (sleep patterns and requirements, physical fitness and exercise, nutrition and healthy eating, obesity, street drugs education, stress, smoking, alcohol, depression, eating disorders, puberty, and sexually transmitted disease). Your posters must include the following information:

Identifying Information
Somewhere on the poster, include the following: a. Your name b. Grade level of the targeted audience c. Topic All posters will be made and shared with the class on Glogster; be sure to post your URL on your student portfolio as well.

Content Information
1. Basic information Provide relevant information on your chosen topic such as definitions, symptoms and conditions, and relevant statistics. If appropriate, provide a discussion of myths or misconceptions and clarification of these misconceptions. What you include may vary depending on your topic as well as your targeted age group. You should provide information for teachers to share with their students. 2. Effects on the various domains of development Provide a discussion of effects on the body system. Explain how your topic may affect other domains of development such as cognitive abilities (academic performance), language development, social development, etc. 3. Comparison of group or individual differences Depending on your topic, provide a discussion of how children at different developmental stages are affected and/or a comparison of gender or cultural differences. 4. Suggestions for teachers on promoting and/or preventing the chosen topic

2 Provide suggestions on how teachers can promote or prevent your topic. You could also include appropriate activities for the targeted age group, i.e. what activities could teachers conduct in their class to help students? Be sure to provide adequate detail regarding the activities. 5. Educational resources related to topic List and briefly describe at least 5 references (books, articles, websites etc.) that teachers may find useful in regards to your topic. 6. References List all references that were used in putting together your poster. Use APA style the library has material to assist you in the correct style.

In addition to your poster, you must also put together the following:
7. Class handout You should put together a one-page handout with key information on your topic. You will have to make copies and distribute to your classmates on the day of your presentation. 8. Three short-answer questions You must submit, to the instructor, 3 short-answer questions, typed (with answers), that are derived from the information on your poster and handout. These questions may be used on the exam following the presentations.

Make sure that your poster is visually appealing, well written, and free of grammar, spelling and punctuation errors. Showcase Format On the day of poster presentations, students will be divided into two groups. One group will present their information while the other group will walk around, listen, and read. Be prepared to give a brief (2-3 minute) overview of your topic. Groups will then change roles. All students will be evaluating the presentations of their peers an evaluation form will be provided by the instructor.
