background in mathematics, basic science, computer engineering fundamentals.
Course Structure
The first year is common with other B. Tech. programs, covering basic engineering, science and humanities. With second year, the focus shifts to deeper understanding of physical sciences with relevance to engineering. In the subsequent two years, various technologydevelopment oriented courses and carefully selected inter departmental electives give the
Industry Relevance
Extensive Physics + Sound Maths + Technology Applications
Apart from the stress on basic physics, the program envisages for a holistic understanding of mathematical tools, important to all engineers and scientist and provides hands-onexperience with modern computers, electronics, LASERs and device processing systems. The program is challenging with a curriculum to
Career Opputunities
New technologies are emerging rapidly in areas of VLSI, Holography, Optical Data Storage, Optical communication, Photonics, Quantum and Quantum Nano Electronic Devices, Nanotechnology, MEMS, spintronics, MRAM, Optical Computing, Information Technology, Superlattices, LASERs and their use in processing, material science, Plasma processing, MHD, Fusion Devices, Neural Networks, Space Science & Engineering, Environment Technologies, Biomedicine and so on. Many of these specified areas have been well received by the Industry and a strong urge is being felt for manpower specifically trained in such broad based areas to take up new designs concepts and production. These areas also offer excellent opportunities to enterprenuers
2. Provide intellectually
challenging courses for high ability students who have a strong interest in fundamental physics and a desire to acquire skills of an engineer and applied scientist.
The Students
To tackle technology related problems there is a pressing need of creating a constant pool of world-class engineering scientists. It is keeping this demand in mind, IIT Delhi, a premiere technical university of the country started its Bachelor of Technology Program in Engineering Physics. The admission to this program is through the IIT Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) which has a success rate of about 0.5% in terms of number of successful to appeared candidates.
