NewsBin 5.

33 File last updated for Build 7737, December 12, 2006 If you are reading this, you have installed NewsBin and found this file sitting in the NewsBin Folder. To reward your curiosity, here is a list of files that are distributed with NewsBin and a description of what they do: ===Shipped Files=== nbpro.exe - Version 5 executable file sqlite3.exe - open source utility used for viewing or newsbin's .db3 database files. More info on SQLite is http://www.sqlite.org/. We use version 3. If you know http://www.sqlite.org/lang.html will explain what you SQLite. manipulating at SQL, can do with

filters.xml - Default set of filters. You have an option of not overwriting the filters.xml file when doing an upgrade. language.dll - Contains different languages for the text displayed in NewsBin. This one is English. Other languages are available for download at http://translate.newsbin.com. Be sure to match the version exactly. The language.dll file for the newest versions may not be available yet. V53relnotes.txt - Way more information than you want to know about every release of NewsBin Version 5 leading up to this one. readme.txt - duh. ===Created Files=== These files reside in the "Data Path" folder selected under Options/Setup. groups.db3 - NewsBin ships with a default list of only binary groups. Going under the Groups option and hitting "Download Groups" re-writes this file with the newsgroups available from all enabled news servers in your list of news servers. You have an option of not overwriting any existing groups.db3 file when doing an upgrade. If you know SQL, you can view the contents of this database with the SQLite utility, sqlite3.exe. It is included in this folder. signature.db3 - this is how NewsBin detects duplicate files and prevents you from downloading the same file again. It is a database containing an MD5 Hash representing the first 24K of each file. You can use use the View/View Signatures option in NewsBin to view and delete entries in the database. You can also use sqlite3.exe to examine or manipulate the database. You can import your signature.dbm file from the Version 4 series by using File/Import Old Signature Files. settings.db3 - Removed as of 5.05B9 Build 6172 autorar.db3 - keeps track of files in a RAR set. Is automatically created and maintained when downloading .rar or Master Splitter files. Hitting Refresh on the AutoRAR tab rebuilds this list.

autosave.nzz - If you exit NewsBin while files are still queued in your download list, NewsBin automatically saves the download list here. If you have Auto-Autosave enabled under Options/Advanced, then this file will be written periodically as specified by the "Autosave Interv al" settings. When you restart NewsBin, the download list will automatically be rel oaded and resume downloading. Whenever the download list is saved, NewsBin copies the current autosave.nzz to autosave.nzz.bak, then performs the save operation. If there is a system failure or the save operation fails for some other reason, the autosave.nzz.bak file can be manually copied to autosave.nzz so you can resume. For ever successfull save of the download list, the autosave.nzz.bak file is removed. scratch.nzz - Works exactly like autosave.nzz but saves the contents of your Scr atch list. The scratch list is reloaded on restart but files do not start to download. failed.nzz - Works exactly like scratch.nzz but saves the contents of your Faile d list. ChunkToFile.db3 - Tracks the signature and filename of the first chunk (or part) of a multipart file. NewsBin uses this information to know how to reassemble multipart files once all the parts are downloaded. RPB.db3 - stores the bodies of posts that you perform a Read Post Body on. PAR.db3 - Stores information for any PAR files downloaded. For use with AutoRAR and future planned features. *.nbi - this is the NewsBin configuration file that holds your configuration information including download path, selected servers and groups, and option selections. ===Created Folders=== \Documents and Settings\<User>\My Documents\Newsbin Download - this is the default Download Path for any binaries you download with NewsBin. You can select the location of this folder under Options/Setup. "Data Path" is \Documents and Settings\<User>Application Data\Newsbin by default . <Data Path>\SPOOL - this folder contains all headers previously downloaded so NewsBin does not have to re-download them if you access the newsgroup again later. Headers are organized with separate directories created for each newsgroup and then separate files containing 20,000 headers at a time named after each news server. Selecting a newsgroup and hitting ctrl-l loads headers from these spool files without accessing usenet. The headers are compressed to minimize storage requirements. <Data Path>\CHUNKS - this folder contains files which are parts of multipart posts in the process of being downloaded. Once all parts of a multipart post are downloaded, the chunks are assembled into a single file and moved into the appropriate folder and the chunk files are deleted. If a download is interrupted, the files stay around so you can resume a multipart download later. Unused chunks stay in this

folder and are pruned automatically based on the "Purge Chunks Older Than" setting under Options/Advanced. <Data Path>\Images - folder used to store image databases if the Image Database feature is turned on.
