CONTROLS

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT - Use the following items of personal protective equipment in addition to the Standard Mandatory PPE (Hat, Boots, Overalls) PREPARATION AND RECOVERY CONTROLS - The following must be in place before work starts. Type of ELV system to be identified on the permit. (Machinery control, Process control, batteries) Gas testing is to be carried out in hazardous areas immediately before start of Hot Work for each shift. All areas above and below the worksite are to be inspected to minimise the probability of objects falling onto or from the worksite. Check that extraction/ventilation system is operational. If ventilation system fails personnel must stop work and leave the confined space immediately. Check that the Control Room Operator or AA is aware that the executive action of the ESD system is inhibited and the, work party are aware of the actions required to shut the valve in an emergency. Check access and escape routes are clear at all times or alternative routes marked and the work force informed.

EXECUTION CONTROLS - The following must be observed during the work. Batteries must NOT be installed or removed in hazardous areas and must be disposed of in the correct manner. If in doubt ask. Process equipment is not to be used for hand/foot holds or for supporting lifting gear or scaffolding. Whilst working on or near mechanical equipment, electrical switchgear, instruments and small bore pipework, care must be taken to avoid accidental damage. Any incident which causes damage must be reported to the Control Room/PCF. Portable Gas Detector to be at Worksite at all times.
