Unique Characteristics
Dr. Mullaney has always been an active and caring member of his community. As an AYSO
Soccer Coach, a Peer Counselor at the Chatham, Massachusetts Teen Drop-in Center, a Boulder
Community Hospital volunteer, and as a member of a Construction Outreach program in
Berkeley, California, where he helped to renovate the Community After School Center. Dr.
Mullaney has impacted many young lives. He hopes to continue to make an impact as a talented
and competent physician who has pledged to increase the quality of care in medicine.

Dr. Mullaney’s years as a business owner have taught him how to manage resources, work in
stressful and multi-faceted situations, and work as an effective and efficient team member.
Furthermore, Dr. Mullaney has demonstrated his ability to advocate for others, as he did as a
congressional liaison for the American Society of Addiction Medicine at the 2004 annual
meeting in Washington D.C. and as the Vice-President of Ban Chang International, where he
promoted legislative considerations regarding international laws governing Double Taxation and
Intellectual Property rights.

Dr. Mullaney has continued to advocate for the underserved since his graduation from St.
Matthew’s University. He has participated in a full year preceptor-ship with Dr. Stanley Evans of
Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine and volunteered in the Addiction Psychiatry Program for the
University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Driven to challenge himself and to learn as much as possible, Dr. Mullaney is also working on
his Masters in Health Service Administration, at St. Joseph’s College of Maine, Standish, ME.

Preclinical/Basic Science Curriculum:


Dr. Mullaney earned a Basic Science GPA of 3.05. He earned Honors recognition in
Biochemistry, Gross Anatomy I & II, Genetics, Neuroscience, Introduction to Psychiatry, and
Introduction to Medicine.

In addition to fulfillment of all course requirements, each student must successfully complete an
OSCE and pass a written examination, consisting of the NBME Comprehensive Basic Science
Shelf Exam or the Kaplan Medical Institutional Exam, prior to beginning Clinical Rotations.

Summary

Dr. Mullaney earned a clinical GPA of 3.25 and an overall GPA of 3.25. He received primarily
High Pass and Honors recognition for his core clerkships and Honors recognition in each of his
4th year Elective Clerkships. He has consistently been commended for his eagerness to learn, his

St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine
Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, British West Indies
Chartered and founded in 1997, St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine is accredited by
the Accreditation Commission of Colleges of Medicine (ACCM), this is the agency designated
by the Government of the Cayman Islands as our official accrediting agency. In 2007, St.
Matthew’s University achieved a six year accreditation from the ACCM. The ACCM is
recognized by the US Department of Education’s National Committee on Foreign Medical
Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA) as having accreditation standards for medical schools
comparable to those in the U.S. St. Matthew’s is also licensed in the States of Florida and New
York and boasts recognition from both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the
Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). Our students achieve
exceptional scholastic and professional success with recent USMLE Step 1 pass rates at 93%.
Special programmatic emphasis and strengths of the medical school:
St. Matthew’s has a multicultural, diverse student population with a high level of clinical
competency. Many graduates come equipped with post-graduate degrees including MBAs from
Davenport University. Students in general are older, more mature, and bring a strong work ethic
to the work place. Students are most interested in providing care to medically under-served
communities and St. Matthew’s strives to provide quality education focused both on the success
of our students and on patient-centered care.
Special characteristics of the medical school’s educational program:
In addition to Clinical “Block Rotations”, St. Matthew’s offers an interactive online web based
oversight in the Clinical years using ANGEL, a Learning Management System. This provides
direct access to discussions and interactions with the Clinical Chiefs.
