WeatherFrequently Asked Questions What does the pilot consider when assessing the weather? Visibility: low cloud or fog mean we dont have the visibility needed to fly safely Wind strength and direction: ideal conditions are 5-10 knots, but we would consider flying in up to 15 knots, depending on gustiness and wind direction. Rain: It isnt necessarily dangerous to fly in rain but it isnt very pleasant! We can sometimes sit out sporadic showers, so dont assume your flight is cancelled if light rains are forecast. If rain is persistent, we will reschedule your flight for another day.

How do we make a decision about whether to fly? We will make a decision based on various weather forecasts. The closer the forecast to the time of your flight, the more accurate it is likely to be - so please call for a weather check either on the morning of your flight or the evening before at the earliest. However, if you are travelling from a long way, or thinking of booking accommodation, please contact us first so we can advise you how to proceed. Please don't make assumptions about the weather without speaking to us - only the pilot can make the final decision whether or not to fly! Green/Amber/Red As much as we'd like to, we can't ever guarantee the weather - sometimes conditions change very quickly and without warning. However, we will try to make as accurate a decision as possible, and give you realistic information. We think in terms of a Green/Amber/Red system Green : we think that the weather will be suitable, and flying will go ahead. However, if in the unlikely event of weather conditions changing without warning, we reserve the right not to fly. Red : we do not think the weather will be suitable and will cancel all flying. Customers will be offered alternative dates. Amber : the weather forecast is ambiguous. We will be on the airfield ready to fly. Any customers booked in to fly will be very welcome to come along and take a chance on whether or not their flight will go ahead - and we can keep in touch throughout the day via mobile phone to update them on conditions. Customers who would prefer not to take a chance will be rebooked.

You will see an RVP sign directly opposite the entrance. By car: from the M25 (Junction 31): -Exit at Junction 31 -Take the 3rd exit sign posted to Aveley -Follow road up to Aveley and turn left at the mini roundabout. - After about 100m turn right at the mini roundabout with a Petrol station on the corner - Drive up the road to a big roundabout - Go straight over sign posted to Upminster. - After exactly 2 miles (just past Warwick Lane on your left), turn left into the airfield just after the cottages at the entrance to Damyns Hall Aerodrome.
