Typical Library Media Lesson (Elementary): 1. Students should quietly enter the library and be seated on a carpeted Read Aloud area or at tables. 2. The Library Media Assistant (LMA) should introduce the book(s) which will be read from the district Read aloud list. The LMA will read the book(s) to students and then discuss students thoughts about the book(s). The LMA should then share any other related books (author or subject) that can be found in the library and the location of the books. (10 minutes) 3. The LMA should assist students in locating books in the library. (10 minutes) 4. Students should then be seated at tables visible from library circulation desk. Call students by table to the circulation desk to check-out their books. All students not checking out books should be quietly reading their books or working on an assignment provided by their classroom teacher. When all students have checked out their books they will need to form a single line at the door for dismissal to their classroom teacher. (10 minutes) Library Book Returns The Library Media assistant should receive (earlier in the day) all library books from students scheduled to have a library session for that day. Returned books need to be checked in prior to a class arriving at the library for that days lesson. Students who did not return their library books should not be allowed to check-out new books. Students who did not return library books should be given the opportunity to read at a table from a pre-selected set of books or magazines or complete an assignment provided by their classroom teacher while other students are selecting and checking out new books.
