Shown in Size S (vest version shown on next page)

Here is a cardigan (and vest) knitting pattern to top all with its wonderful attention to detail. Bold curvy scroll lace panels (that mirror each other) create a gorgeous statement on the front of the cardigan, extending to the generous collar, which can be worn open as shown or buttoned up to different heights for a variety of moods. The same scroll lace is repeated on the dramatically textured belled sleeves. Beautiful shaping is accentuated with reverse stockinette stitch seams on the back, front, and the sleeves. The length is just to the hip. Bold buttons complete the detailing. This is the masterpiece you have been waiting to make for yourself! Knit in a popular wool/mohair blend yarn that comes in an amazing range of colors. The bulky weight also makes for a quick knit. This pattern includes a vest version with garter stitch armhole edgings to replace the sleeves. You'll want to make both versions!

CURVY SCROLL LACE PANELS
NOTES: 1) In order for the FRONT Lace Panels to mirror each other, the LEFT Front will follow Version 1 of the Lace, while the RIGHT Front will follow Version 2. 2) On the Cuffs and the Collar, you will work BOTH versions of the Lace. With the RS of the Collar or Cuffs facing, you will follow Version 1 at the beg of the rows, then Version 2 near the end of the rows. This is why the Lace Charts are shown with Version 1 to the right of Version 2, so you can work from right to left on RS rows and left to right on the WS rows. 3) IMPORTANT: When working a yo on WS of work, bring yarn between needles to back of work, then over right needle to front of work before purling next st. On the following row, k this yo through its back loop, so that the eyelet formed by the yo remains open.

NOTES:

1) Instructions are written for the smallest size, with instructions for the larger sizes in parentheses, respectively. PLEASE go through the pattern first, highlighting or circling ALL instructions for the size you are knitting. This will help avoid any size confusion as you are knitting. 2) make 1 right-slanting ("m1R") = with left needle, pick up strand between last st worked and next st from back to front, knit into the FRONT of it to create a new st. 3) make 1 left-slanting ("m1L") = with left needle, pick up strand between last st worked and next st from front to back, knit into the BACK of it to create a new st. 4) "Work even" = work in patts as established without any shaping (i.e. maintaining same number of sts without any inc or dec). 5) "pm" = place st marker 6) "sm" = sl st marker. "Sm" will often be omitted to keep instructions simpler and shorter. Just sl markers as you come to them. 7) For armhole, neckline, and sleeve cap shaping, work all decs right at the edge (no selvage sts), unless otherwise specified. On RS rows: Skp at beg of row; k2tog at end of row. On WS rows: P2tog at beg of row; ssp at end of row.

Neckline Shaping NOTES: 1) When Shaping Neckline with the Curvy Scroll Lace: each yo is paired with a decrease. When decreasing at the neckline edge, be sure to keep the lace pattern correct. Do not work a yo if there are not enough sts to work its accompanying decrease. 2) On some rows, the instruction will indicate using "2 single decreases" for neck shaping. The specific type of dec is not specified so you can choose to use any combination of k2tog or skp for RS rows and p2tog or ssp on WS rows that will help maintain the look of the Curvy Scroll Lace (it will vary by the size you are making). When in doubt, just do [k2tog] 2 times on RS rows and [p2tog] 2 times on WS rows. Reset Row Counter to 0. Row 1 [RS]: Work even to last 5 sts. Wrap next st: wyib sl 1, bring yarn forward, sl st back onto left needle. Sl these last 5 sts onto a st holder = 21 (21, 23, 25, 26, 26, 27) sts. Row 2 [WS BO at Neck]: BO 2 (2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4) sts at beg of row (neck edge), maintaining Curvy Lace as possible (see NOTE above) = 19 (19, 20, 22, 23, 23, 23) sts. Row 3 [RS Dec 2]: Dec 2 at neck edge using 2 single decreases = 17 (17, 18, 20, 21, 21, 21) sts. Row 4 [WS BO at Neck]: BO 2 (2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3) sts at neck edge = 15 (15, 16, 18, 18, 18, 18) sts. Row 5 [RS Dec 2]: Dec 2 at neck edge using 2 single decreases = 13 (13, 14, 16, 16, 16, 16) sts. When in doubt, just do [skp] 2 times on RS rows and [ssp] 2 times on WS rows. Reset Row Counter to 0.
