PID implementation of heating tank in mini automation plant using Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)
ABSTRACT(2011) This paper presents the implementation of PID controller using Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) in heating tank of mini automation plant. PID controller is implemented by using ladder diagram in PLC OMRON CJIM-CPU12. A temperature control unit CJ1W-TC001 is also used where the temperature control unit is a special I/O unit that receives inputs directly from thermocouple, to perform PID control. Desired temperature or set point (SP) is set by the user using the Human Machine Interface (HMI) and the controller within the PLC will try to maintain the current temperature base on the set point temperature set by the user. Temperature control is very difficult to be implemented by using ordinary control techniques; hence the purpose of this research is to implement PID controller design using programmable logic controller (PLC) in order to control the time to heat up a particular solution to a desired temperature efficiently without scarifying the stability of the system. A complete analysis using different kind of PID parameters is presented in terms of system response. Performance of the controller is examined in terms of settling time, rise time and percent overshoot. Finally, a comparative assessment of the PID controller on the system performance is presented and discussed.

ABSTRACT To control the temperature and humidity in a room with a specific area, the traditional control method of air conditioning systems involves frequent starting and stopping of the compressor. Programmable logic controller(PLC) was applied to realize the fuzzy controlled air conditioning system. The keyboard is used to simulate temperature, the DIP Switch (DSW) is used to simulate humidity, and the stepping motor is used to simulate compressor. The feedback signal through PLC is transferred to computer for fuzzy control. Finally, the control signal from computer is transferred to PLC to control speed of stepping motor for simulating the operation of compressor. This system can change the speed for

different loads as well as adjust the compressor at any time. With this system, the temperature and humidity provided by the air conditioning system remain at comfortable levels and reduce the air conditioning load to achieve the objective of energy savings.

ABSTRACT In today's society, it is more and more emphasized the necessity to collect and recycle the waste products resulted from human daily activities. In the process of waste products collecting and transporting, one of the main impediments is the efficiently using of storage space, reason why, we have proposed a solution for compaction of small non ferrous metal cans. We developed a hardware structure composed from the individual selecting and positioning system, compacting lever both electrically driven, and the optical sensors system for the positioning of the tin can plus, inductive sensors for stroke limitation of the compacting lever. Then, we have programmed the PLC able to control (the execution elements) and ensure the succession of the process states. This application could be extended to an urban recyclable waste products collecting system that would involve execution elements and sensors able to ensure a reliable, robust and efficient functioning. At this solution, supplementary functions might be added, functions necessary to monitor the system and also useful for people's attraction to waste products recycling (e.g. by providing valued coupons).

ABSTRACT This paperwork presents applications built to create automatic processes performed through preprogramming of the functions of a building and the spaces adjacent to this one. The concept of "intelligent building" gives us a drastic reduction of energy consumption without affecting of the comfort given by the most modern electric equipment and facilities. In a classical building, the individual systems are independently controlled and their parameters do not influence one on each others. A building can be called intelligent when its systems control is integrated and the decisions are taken based on rules initially set out. So, we built

a hardware structure for an intelligent building implemented system at a scale model and then we programmed the machine to obtain various equipment drives built into the system. The extending of these applications made for a scale model of a building to a real building, it will consist of sensors (presence, motion, level and humidity) able to ensure the desired system security degree. Also, other functions can be added to let the system to be remotely controlled via telephone or through a computer connected to the Internet.

ABSTRACT Programmable logic controllers (PLCs) are widely used in embedded systems. Timers play a pivotal role in PLC real-time applications. The formalisation of timers is of great importance. The study presents a formalisation of PLC timers in the theorem proving system Coq, in which the behaviours of timers are characterised by a set of axioms at an abstract level. The authors discuss how to model timers at a proper and sound abstract level. PLC programs with timers are modelled. As a case study, a quiz machine problem with a timer is investigated. This work demonstrates the complexity of formal timer modelling.

ABSTRACT This paper studies the application of counterexample-guided abstraction refinement to programs written in Instruction List as part of a model checking framework. More importantly, it presents an approach for automatic abstraction refinement based on SAT solving. This technique is based on an encoding of the semantics of Instruction List in propositional Boolean logic. Since elegant ideas and careful engineering have advanced SAT solvers to the state they can rapidly decide satisfiability of structured problems that involve thousands of variables, this approach scales well in practice. The true force of this method, however, is that a single description of the semantics of a program can be used to perform abstraction refinement in a number of abstract domains, including but not limited to intervals and bit sets, thereby decoupling the refinement from the chosen abstraction.

ABSTRACT Component-based programming frameworks for industrial control logic development promise to shorten development and modification times, and to reduce programming errors. To get these benefits, it is, however, important that the components are specified and verified to work properly. This work introduces Reusable Automation Components (RACs), which contain not only the implementation details but also a formal specification defining the correct use and behaviour of the component. This formal specification uses temporallogic to describe time-related properties and has a special structure developed to meet industrial control needs. The RAC can be formally verified, to determine whether the implementation fulfils the specification or not. A RAC prototype development tool has been developed to demonstrate this capability. The main difference between the RAC and other frameworks for formal verification of control logic is the specification modeling. In RAC, not only the implementation but also the specification is based on the structure and languages of conventional controllogic, aiming at being easy to comprehend for control logic engineers. Several industrial examples are discussed in this paper, showing the benefits and potential of the framework.

ABSTRACT This paper presents the simulated and measured results of switching transients of the laboratory Microgrid system of the companion paper in Part I that implements a web-based monitoring system using an industrial PLC and campus internet. The studied laboratory Microgrid system consists of two wind induction generators, an AC-to-DC converter, a DCto-AC inverter, a PV module, a UPS, and a battery module, which are operated under balanced three-phase loading conditions. The equivalent-circuit system model of each subsystem based on a qd-axis reference frame is combined together to formulate the complete dynamic system equations of the studied Microgrid system. The nonlinear transient responses of the studied Microgrid system under various operating modes are also compared with the measured results to determine dynamics of the studied system under different rotor speeds of wind induction generators and various insolation of PV. It can be concluded from the simulated and experimental results of this paper that the proposed system models are valid and feasible to study the dynamic stability of a laboratory Microgrid system.
