DO Toro, Spain 040360 (XD) 750 mL $ 18.95
month
TASTING NOTE: Finca Sobrenos 2005 Crianza is 100% Tinta de Toro [Tempranillo] aged for 7 months in American oak. Dark crimson-colored, it offers an enticing bouquet of cedar, mineral, blackberry, and floral notes. This leads to a ripe, supple, fullflavored, spicy wine with excellent depth and balance. Although designed and priced to be consumed in its youth, it will evolve for several years. Score 90. (Jay Miller, www.erobertparker.com, Aug. 2008)
This single vineyard Carmenre may just be the worlds best. Need proof? It was awarded the Grand Trophy at Chiles 2nd Annual World Carmenre Competition in 2008. TASTING NOTE: Deep ruby/purple colour leads to a nose of ripe cassis, dark chocolate, sage, cedar, mocha, and wood smoke. Dry with loads of fruit perfectly supported by ripe tannins and fine smokyoak tones. Medium full-bodied with a very long finish. Keep it 2-4+ years or enjoy it tonight with a very rare steak. THREAT
In show business it is the rare performer who is an exceptional singer, dancer and actor. Chile is the vinous equivalent. While most wine regions have one, or perhaps two specialties Chiles winemaking reputation is built on the strength of its three superstar varieties: Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Carmenre, its signature grape. Comfortable in the spotlight, the three Cs of Chile continue to captivate admirers everywhere.

CHARDONNAY
Tempered by the cooling influences of the Pacific Ocean, both the Casablanca and Leyda Valleys are crafting topquality Chardonnay in a fresh, brightly fruity style. Their latitudes ensure plenty of sunshine and a lengthy growing season, making for vividly fruity wines that are well balanced by refreshing acidity. Winemakers are often judicious if using oak barrels, creating wines that balance fruit and oak characteristics.

CABERNET SAUVIGNON
By far Chiles most planted and in-demand grape variety, Cabernet Sauvignon thrives in the countrys dry, sunny central valleys. Chilean Cabernets bridge the styles of California and Bordeaux, with soft, fleshy versions that retain impressively subtle nuances of fruit flavour. The best examples have the muscle and stuffing to age and evolve.

a string of valleys running north-south between the coastal hills and the towering Andes Mountains. Much like the Sonoma and Napa Valleys in California, Chiles sunny coastal valleys enjoy the moderating effect of cool ocean breezes from the Pacific. The hotter central vineyards are tempered by glacial breezes coming down from the Andes. California and Chile also share similarly long growing seasons, which helps ensure perfect ripeness. Latitude is a less important factor in Chile than proximity to either the ocean or the mountains for determining wine styles.
VINTAGES 9
CARMENRE
This once-forgotten grape has risen from obscurity to become Chiles signature variety. Carmenre was once widely planted in Bordeaux, but following the devastation of phylloxera in the 19th century, it was thought to be lost forever. In 1994, the grape was discovered to be alive and well in the vineyards of Chile (where it had previously been misidentified as Merlot), and a star was born again. Carmenre ripens even later than Cabernet Sauvignon, which in part accounts for its success in Chiles long, consistent growing season.

August 29, 2009 Release FEATURES
Exploring the Rhne Valley Californian Zinfandel
VINTAGES is the fine wine and premium spirits business unit of the LCBO. Products featured in this catalogue may be obtained in two ways: 1. Shopping in person at a VINTAGES location on or after the Release date. Note: Supplies are limited and product availability will vary from store to store. Customers in the Toronto and Ottawa areas must shop in person. 2. Ordering specific VINTAGES products through your local LCBO or VINTAGES store. This is a service we provide for our customers who live outside the Toronto and Ottawa areas only. Important customers must submit their requests to their local LCBO store by 11 am the Tuesday before the Release date. VINTAGES allocates a percentage of products in each release to fulll customer requests. This does not guarantee availability as VINTAGES products are purchased in finite quantities and are sometimes extremely limited and/or in very high demand. Store staff can order as many bottles as you require subject to availability. NEW Transferring Products From Other Stores: VINTAGES customers may now ask for product including ISDs to be transferred between stores if stock is still available 2 weeks after the release date. Please contact your local LCBO store to make arrangements. VINTAGES catalogues are available online at www.vintages.com. Our website also features product search, special offers, events, store locations and other information. Lets Keep in Touch: If you wish to receive the VINTAGES catalogues at your home or ofce, please contact VINTAGES Sales Centre at 416-365-5767, or toll-free at 1-800-266-4764 or via email at vintages@lcbo.com to sign up for our mailing list. This is a free service and your privacy is assured. Help keep us up-to-date. If you are a subscriber and are moving, receiving a duplicate copy, or wish to unsubscribe, please update us by contacting VINTAGES Sales Centre by telephone at 416-365-5767 or toll-free at 1-800-266-4764; or via email vintages@lcbo.com.
