Today is the tirunakshatram of Swmi Prativdi Bhayankaram A an. We are well versed with the suprabhtam composed by the Swmi on Lord Tiruvngadamudaiyn, which millions of devotees of the Lord recite or hear everyday, with or without the knowledge of the author's greatness. Still, there are many works of the same author composed on our Lord Swmi Varavaramuni who protects all the worlds and rvaishavas as evidenced by our prayer "a iyrka vzha .... maava mmuniy innumoru ntrnirum". We shall experience today the suprabhtam and mangasanam composed by Swmi PB Aan on Swmi Varavaramuni. This is a translation of the work by r. U.Ve. Bharataraghupati Swmi as published in the Nov. 2008 issue of the reputed railsadayptram magazine.

1)

raviruditastvathpi na vinayati m timiram varavaraygivarya! varaya! dayaikanidh!

vikasati pankajam hrdayapankajamva na m | jayajaya dva jgrhi janshu nidhhi dhiyam || The Sun has risen, yet the darkness of my ignorance has not been dispelled. The lotuses have blossomed, unlike the lotus of my heart. O Varavaramuni Swamin! O Refuge of all! O Lordship of mercy! Victory to Thee! Thou must awake and arise, for good intellect to rise in (the horizon) of Thy devotees.

2)

svapanamidam tava svamahimnubhavaikarasam tadapi tathvidam taditi jtu na vtti jana: | varavaraygivarya! tadidam vijahtu bhavn aparimitam hitam trijagatmanucintayitum || O Varavaramuni Swmin! Thy sleep is a reflection of Thy greatness(unlike the sleep of the world that arises due to ignorance and laziness). However, the people of the world do not realize this. Thou should rise, abandoning this sleep, in order to reflect upon the supreme well-being of all three worlds. (Special Note: It is worth mentioning here that according to other works on the history of Swmi Periya Jyar, it has been mentioned that Swmi leaves for rest only after 11 p.m. at night and rises around 3 a.m in the morning. Also, Swmi Koil Aan mentions that Swmi Varavaramuni experiences the Lord Periya Perum even in sleep. Hence, readers shall remain aware of the kind and duration of sleep that Swmi is asked to leave in this prayer.)

3)

avataraam tadva jagatmavivkabhrtm tata ita hi ygaayann mama ntha!

vividhahitvabhdhanakrt hi krtam bhavat | jann amrtamayairapngavalayairabhishayitum || My Lord! Thou descended to this world of fools to redeem us by instructing the good. Hence, Thou should rise from this sleep of meditation to bathe(purify) us with the elixir of Thy graceful glances.

4)

aradaravinda brnda sushamparipsha jush tava nayanna kana par carana tath | madhuragapradhracaturairuditairitar varada! dhuram dharanti bhavasindhumamum taritum || O Bestower of Good! Some cross the ocean of matter(Samsra) by means of Thy divine feet, which exceed the beauty of groups of fresh blossomed lotuses. Thy eyes, which go by the same description (as Thy feet in the comparison with lotuses), are the means for a few others. There are still others, who cross this world by the might of Thy sweet, comprehensive, clear and effective words.

5)

bhavanamidam hitya jagat bhavat~dhigatam | tadapi sadaiva dva! nrgatim prakatkurush tadiha mahattavaiva kuru vaibhavamudbhiduram || O Grand Serpent of Paramapada! (O disha!) For the good of the world, Thou have attained this land of Rangapati (Periya Perum). However, Thy exibition of Thyself has been that of a simple soul. Please cast aside this guise and reveal to all of us the full splendour of Thy immense glory!

Those who have the great benefit of living perfectly in this world, protected by Thy grace, reach the Supreme Position without the need for any other means.
