sounds for TIB

TAYPORT Instrumental Band are reaching the end of their successful centenary year. They were in the dol drums last year following a membership crisis which caused relegation, but stal warts and fresh recruits, under the baton of new conductor Bob McDonald from Dundee, have blown their way back into the First Section at the Scottish Brass Band Finals held recently in Falkirk. It was. a case of down, one year and straight back up again by defeating 11 other bands from all over Scotland in fine style. TIB's performance was "best by far," said adjudi cator Derek Broadbent. This result means Tay port represent Scotland at the National Brass Band Finals in Harrogate at the end of September. Bob McDonald, an ex member and former con ductor of the junior band, has returned after a spell with Perthshire Brass to take the helm of the senior band and his conducting experience and a re building programme is making the future look bright. His son Paul, a former Tayport member, played soprano cornet in the famous Grimethorpe Col liery Band, appearing in the film Brassed Off.

Paul's sister Gayle is now playing soprano cornet with TIB. Busy months lie ahead as the band embarks on a concert programme which means engagements every weekend throughout Tay side and north Fife as well as having to prepare for Harrogate. One event the residents of Tayport will be looking forward to will be on Sun day, June 21, when the band will parade around the town showing off their

haul of trophies and round ing off the centenary year. This will be followed by a concert in the grounds of the council offices. Although the band is self-supporting, relying on local fund-raising and membership subscriptions, members are always willing to help out with other fund-raising ventures. TIB have already been involved in raising over 400 for the Tayport Com

munity Sports and Action Group and will be playing at the Harbour Gala on Sunday, May 10, which is a fund-raiser towards the building of a new sports centre in Tayport. Band members are of all ages and playing ability and come from as far off as Arbroath and Anstruther but experi enced members are still being sought. All interested brass musi cians or former members wishing to get involved are

invited to contact the secre tary on 01382 55265l.
