Magsaysay Awards Announced
Each year six people or organizations are named joint winners of theprestigious Magsaysay award and this year two of them are Ashoka Fellows, Tri Mumpuni and Harish Hande. Indonesian social worker Tri Mumpuni wasrecognized because her IBEKA foundation built 60 small power plantsharnessing the energy of water stored in dams to bring electricity to half amillion people. Indian engineer Harish Hand’s Solar Electric Light Co. hastapped the sun’s energy to light up 120,000 households and is now one of the country’s largest solar technology producers.
