Alpha Xi Delta Denver Alumnae Association

Presidents Letter
Greetings Sisters, Alpha Xi Delta.always on my mind- this is the theme for our 2011 National Convention and it is becoming my own personal commitment. As the newly elected president for the next two years, I look forward to serving our Denver Alumnae Association. My husband and I moved to Denver eight years ago from Richmond, Virginia. Since graduating from college in 1965 this was my first sorority experience. I was so proud to be able to wear the quill again. I have been inspired by my Alpha Xi Delta alumnae sisters in the past eight years and hope to continue these friendships throughout my life. Our group offers many diverse opportunities to enrich our Alpha Xi Delta bonds.participating in the Sweet Charity brunch event, attending monthly meetings, playing bridgejust to name a few. college or are enjoying retirement, we invite you to participate in our alumnae group. I have enjoyed reflecting on the words by Julia Maude Foster, one of our founders:

The buzz word for the 2011 Convention in Atlanta is MAX. This stands for Marketing Alpha Xi. It is an initiative of the National Fraternity. The MAX theory was developed in 2008. Its goal is for every 18 year old woman to recognize and know our letters before attending her first college recruitment party. MAX has grown into a way of inspiring Alpha Xi Deltas to be proud of their sorority and challenges us to find ways to promote Alpha Xi Delta throughout our community. We can now reach out to so many young women with our new technologies such as Facebook and Twitter. At luncheons, breakout sessions, and general meetings Carol and I were given new ideas for promoting Alpha Xi Delta. Over $500,000 has been raised for Autism Speaks. We have brought back great philanthropy fundraising ideas and have met with sisters who area very involved with Autism Speaks. Congratulations to Barbara Hoover, the Edna Epperson Brinkman Award winner this year. This award recognizes an alumna members accomplishments and dedication to the Fraternity and her service to her community over a long period of time. For the fifth consecutive year the Denver Alumnae Association has been honored to receive the Ruth Simmons James Award with Highest Honors. This is the highest award an alumnae can receive from the national fraternity. We have been truly inspired and have a renewed love and pride for Alpha Xi Delta. We want to thank everyone in our alumnae group for allowing us to attend.

Our Alumnae Association supports four organizations in the Denver Metro area through our philanthropy. Panhellenic News by Cindy Bowers

Once again the Denver Area Panhellenic (DAP) 2010-2011 year was a memorable time to share with our Greek sisters. The annual awards luncheon was held on April 30, 2011, at Pinehurst Country Club. Our nominee for the 2011 Woman of the Year Award was Suzanne Boos and Floy Louise Senior was our nominee for the 2011 Alumni Achievement Award. Congratulations to both of you! DAPs philanthropies are New Garments Always and a collection of school supplies. School Supplies were collected this year and given to Crawford Elementary in Aurora. I would like to thank everyone who contributed this past year. Please remember that New Garments Always, formerly known as Needlework Guild of America, takes only new items. This is strictly a voluntary activity. At our January meeting, we will be accepting contributions for New Garments Always. Reminder: DAP has a website at www.denverareapanhellenic.org If you know a collegian or a soon to be collegian , please encourage her to access this website. It would be very helpful if she would utilize the Panhellenic Registration Form. Information about the DAP scholarship is available on this website.

Did Know? 1 in 110 children are diagnosed with autism. 1 in 70 boys are diagnosed with autism. A child is diagnosed with autism every 20 minutes.

Barbara Hoover won Edna Epperson Brinkman Award

At the Alpha Xi Delta National Convention in July, 2011, Barbara Hoover won the Edna Epperson Brinkman Award. The award was established in 1952 as a tribute to the second national president. It is given to one outstanding alumna from each state and the Denver Alumnae group is thrilled that Barbara won this great honor due to her dedication and commitment to serving her Fraternity and her community. She is faithful about her volunteer work from the church vacation bible school to her work in the childrens ward at a local hospital. Over the years, Barbara has been involved in many roles of Alpha Xi Delta at the National level, Province/Regional level, and the local alumnae groups. She has also served as a Panhellenic president and council delegate. The Denver sisters appreciate all the time and work Barbara has shared and we look forward to continuing to share with Barbara in the coming years. She exemplifies a true Alpha Xi Delta sister! We are so proud of you, Barbara! Congratulations!
