TOPIC: Views of the Curriculum

How are they alike?

Traditional Curriculum
- both are learned in school.
- they provide meaningful experience for the learner. - provide learning outcomes for students . - they provide courses/subjects/ several topics.

Progressive Curriculum

How are they different?

"progessive curriculum.... they adopt the use of technology

"traditional curriculum is teaher-

say for example.... other IT schools around they use e-lerning instead of classroom PROGRESSIVE CURRICULUM.... meaning "it progresses" "change" part by part... say... hmmm... before chalk board... now we use white board.... assignment is now online...

student relationship they use boards... chalk boards in particular.... they use books as the source of their knowledge.... they have quizzes on paper recitation.... teacher checks attendance"

and can be submitted through email..."

I interviewed Noime Jovine who is currently working at Southville International School and Colleges.

My Personal Insights

After I interviewed Ms. Noime Jovine and having some research about progressive and traditional curriculum, I learned that its not about what curriculum will be implemented to make your student learn and understand your lesson. It is about how will be implemented and how your student will understand the curriculum, its like knowing their learning style and think what kind of curriculum suits them. Its incorrect to say that we are in a modern days so progressive curriculum must use. Yes, it makes our life easy, because we can get knowledge by just typing it on a text bar and lots of information will jumps you on the screen. But knowing the reality that this information are not reliable all the time, we still get it because were thinking that it is a waste of time if we go to the library and look for the book, browsing every page to come up for an answer. Honestly Im not a book lover so Im used to web browsing because the information I gathered here is specific and not lengthy. But you know what? Most of the time, information I gathered here is lacking or even sometimes wrong. So I realize that there should be a balance between progressive and traditional. We can use traditional if we want be specific, like for example learning physics, we use specific formulas to get the right answer and we can use progressive if we want to be general, like for example, teaching about how pollution affects the lives of all of us. Web browsing is not useful all the time. Yes, it is modern, it is updated and its easy. But still we need to consider important things. And that is the reliability and validity of information, in which it is really important in making an effective curriculum.

If you are to design a curriculum for your own school, what are the things you need to consider?

Staffing - what kinds of staff does my school need? It should meet the five domains ( physical, selfhelp, cognitive, psychosocial, and language) Multisensory International School Provides opportunity to meet the needs of the learners. Educational Experience - it should be meaningful for the learner. Funding - where will my school allocate resources? Physical environment of the classroom it should be conducive to learning.
