What an amazing first week!

The first week of school is always an exciting time, and this year was no exception. Our staff found adults and students alike here on the first day ready for school to begin. Students appeared with new haircuts, sharpened pencils, and a can do attitude. In the classrooms this week, there was an amazing amount of community building occurring. In just one day, there was a different greeting going on in each classroom during their morning meetings. Just another mark of our teachers commitment to helping our students foster a sense of community. Our kindergarten and preschool teachers conducted their home visits during the first week of school. On September 6th, our smallest community members braved the building for the first day. The students and families did a wonderful job sending the students into the building ready to learn and participate in our school community Mr. Coon and Mrs. Raabe have been in and out of each classroom this week. They have read stories to students, and brought in artifacts from home to tell the students about themselves. In each classroom, the students were respectful and asked wonderful questions. After such a wonderful beginning, we are excited for a wonderful year with our amazing students and families!

Vision The Swanton School is a caring, responsible, respectful community of learners. Our work, supported by inquiry and reflection, promotes personal integrity, citizenship and lifelong learning.

Forms
At the beginning of each school year, there are a lot of forms that go home. The school and health offices use these forms throughout the year. Please be sure to fill these forms out completely and return them to the school as soon as possible.

Dismissal
If you walk to either of the buildings to pick up your student after school, please remember that families are asked to walk around the playground, not through it. We find that our students have a challenging time transitioning for dismissal if they know that their families are already at school. As always, please remember that the students are around, and can hear adult conversations that happen near windows and doors.

Whos Who?
We have many wonderful staff members who support our families and students through our guidance, counseling and positive behavior programs: Cindy Rose School Counselor, Babcock (Kindergarten-Grade 2) Katy Thompson School Counselor, Central (Grades 5&6) Deb Light School Counselor, Central (Grades 2-4) Melanie Steeneck School Home Coordinator Phyllis Paro Psychological Services Susan Trombley School Psychologist, NCSS Amanda Sweeney Behavior Specialist Carlo Micheli Behavioral Assistant Sarah Tebbetts Behavioral Assistant

Parking Lots
Our parking lots are very busy in the morning and in the afternoon. We ask that our families be aware of students and adults walking to and from school as they drive through these busy places. In addition, Please use the designated parking spaces when dropping off and picking up your child. For the safety of all our children, parents should not park directly in front of the school or along the yellow curb, which is the designated fire lane. Thank you!
