IEEE 802.11- is a set of standards for implementing wireless local area network (WLAN) computer communication in the 2.4, 3.6 and 5 GHz frequency bands. They are created and maintained by the IEEE LAN/MAN Standards Committee (IEEE 802). WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access)- is a telecommunications protocol that provides fixed and mobile Internet access. WAP2 - provides a standard way to transmit, format, and display internet data for small wireless devices such as cell phones.
Wireless access points- are specially configured nodes on wireless local area networks (WLANs). Access points act as a central transmitter and receiver of WLAN radio signals.

WPAN- is a group of technologies that are designed for short-range communications, from a few inches to about 33 feet, effectively eliminating the need for wires or cables to interconnect multiple devices. Yagi antenna- emits a wider, less focused RF energy beam. Ultra-wideband-is a radio technology that can be used at very low energy levels for short-range high-bandwidth communications by using a large portion of the radio spectrum. Wimedia- An association of manufactures and interested organizations formed to promote the implementation of the IEEE 802.15.3 standard and provide various support activities. WPA- is a standard for network authentication and encryption introduced by the Wi-Fi Alliance, in response to the weaknesses in WEP described in the previous section. IrDA-The Infrared Data Association (IrDA) defines physical specifications communications protocol standards for the short-range exchange of data over infrared light, for uses such as personal area networks (PANs). Wireless bridge- is a hardware component used to connect two or more network segments (LANs or parts of a LAN) which are physically and logically (by protocol) separated.

Frequency-hopping spread spectrum- is a method of transmitting radio signals by rapidly switching a carrier among many frequency channels, using a pseudorandom sequence known to both transmitter and receiver. Smartphone- a device that combines a cellular phone with the capabilities of a personal digital assistant (PDA). These devices provide the user with the ability to enter appointments in a calendar, write notes, send and receive e-mail, and browse websites, among other functions. Zigbee- An association of manufactures and interested organizations formed to promote the creation of global standard for wireless devices used in monitoring and control applications. Piconet- A small network composed of two or more bluetooth devices that contains one master and at least one slave exchanging data using the same channel. RFDI- A small tag placed on product packaging and boxes that can be remotely activated and read by remote sensors. The data about the product is then transferred directly to an information -processing system for inventory control, location and counting. Free Space Optics (FSO) is an optical communication technology that uses light propagating in free space to transmit data between two points. VoWLAN- is the use of a wireless broadband network according to the IEEE 802.11 standards for the purpose of vocal conversation.
