Eyes set on Fed meet Caution is the eldest child of wisdom. Victor Hugo. The opening is likely to be cautious given the soft Asian markets. Stocks in the US managed modest gains while those in Europe did exceedingly well. A few key earnings are due today but the same may not have a market-wide impact. Euro-zone seems to have weathered the sovereign debt storm well but concerns are mounting over the state of the US economy. So, naturally all eyes are on todays FOMC meet. Speculation is rife that Bernanke & Co. may unleash another round of quantitative easing. Whether Fed policymakers oblige the markets or not only time will tell. Though the markets may welcome such a move, it will only confirm that the US has hit a soft patch. And, that will not be good news. We will also get an update on the Chinese economy later this week when a slew of economic reports are issued. Q2 GDP data on euro-zone is also due this week. Back home, the latest IIP data will be out on Thursday and monthly inflation figures on Monday.

Man Industries (Buy, between Rs84-85.5, Target 90): Man Industries has formed inverted head and shoulder pattern on daily chart with neckline corresponding at Rs82. Stock so far has been consolidating in this structure for almost a month and after yesterdays close above Rs84.5, the breakout was confirmed with spurt in volumes. One can also see a flag structure in the last five candles which is characterized with continuation pattern and we expect stock to resume its short term uptrend in coming days. RSI too has been confirming positive trend and has decent room before entering into overbought zone. We advise buying stock in the range of Rs84-85.5 with stop loss of Rs82 for Target of Rs90. Kolte Patil (Buy, above Rs63.5, Target Rs68): After hitting an intermediate top of Rs74 in Jan 2010, the stock has been consolidating within symmetrical triangle with volume activity deteriorating. Price activity in last five trading sessions suggests that prices are oscillating in narrow range of Rs60-63 without confirming a breakout on either side. However, since yesterdays candle turned out to be Bullish white belt hold with spurt in volumes, there is a high probability that we might see a breakout on upside. Stock holding above its long term moving averages of 100 DMA and 200 DMA also supports our argument for an upside breakout. We recommend buying stock above Rs63.5 with stop of Rs61.5 for Target of Rs68.

Nifty on Monday surprised on the upside as it broke its previous peak of 5488 and ended near days high. As Nifty is forming a Rising wedge pattern on daily chart, one need to exercise caution at higher levels and maintain a tight stop loss at support line of 5400 levels. On the upside, immediate resistance is seen at levels of 5540 once Nifty surpasses levels of 5490. Support/Resistance levels
