Introduction to Recognized ibstpi Materials [RiM]

The International Board of Standards for Training, Performance and Instruction (www.ibstpi.org) provides a designation known as RiM to approved programs that have been based on the ibstpi standards. This document sets out how you or your company can receive the RiM designation. What is the Purpose of RiM? To provide an ibstpi Seal of Approval to consultants and organizations that build training programs based on our competencies. These programs may be for internal training (e.g. a company builds a course to improve the competence level of in-house Instructors based on our Instructor competencies; a course based on our Training Manager competencies is developed for training managers) or for external training (e.g. a consultant offers a program in basic instructional design, based on our Instructional Design competencies). Whats In It For Me? a) Recognition by ibstpi, the preeminent standards body in the training and performance field, that your program is aligned with ibstpi standards. b) Permission to use the RiM logo on your materials (cover and inside), and on all marketing materials, brochures, and website where the program is mentioned. c) Free advertising of your program on our website as a RiM designated program. How Do I Apply For a RiM Designation? The RiM application process is very easy. a) Complete the Checklist (see separate document) showing o Copyright statements o Statement that the materials are not Board designed o Statement about the board and how to contact us/web site o List of performance statements and indicating where they are dealt with in the content o Listing to show where the competencies are assessed (if relevant) Submit your Materials. We require Instructor guide, Participant guide, and slides if significantly different from Instructor guide. Hard copy, not electronic required for classroom instruction. In case of on-line learning you should provide CD or full access. Materials will be returned if prepaid return freight is provided. b) Pay the fee for review of your materials. o There is a sliding scale of fees ranging from $50 to $200 depending on the nature of the review and the intended use. c) Royalty agreement (if appropriate)

What does RiM Signify? o Our role is to review the submitted materials to ensure that they are aligned with the ibstpi competencies and all competencies are covered and assessed as appropriate. RiM is therefore an acknowledgement that in three areas the materials are satisfactory. a) Content all performance statements are included (unless they are not appropriate for the specific material, and reasons are provided) b) Design Competencies are assessed as appropriate for the type of course (e.g. highly relevant for Instructor competencies, less relevant for Training Manager) c) Format Standard of materials acceptable e.g. formatting, grammar, spelling etc. o In providing the RiM designation ibstpi is making no statement about the quality of the materials, nor the competence of the person delivering the training.
