k Locantore, Better Paper Project Director Division: Programs Team Location: Denver, CO Green America is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a just and sustainable society by harnessing economic power for positive change. Our unique approach involves working with consumers, investors and businesses. Our workplace reflects our goal of creating a more cooperative, environmentally sound economy. Green Americas Better Paper Project (BPP) also uses economic strategies to encourage the magazine industry to become more sustainable. We encourage magazines to have paper policies that protect forests, climate and communities. To shift the magazine industry towards sustainable practices, several large magazines need to demonstrate real leadership and pave the way for other magazines to follow. Reforming the magazine industry takes a great deal of strategic planning, organizing, and persistence. Working with the Better Paper Project increases staffs and interns ability in those areas while also increasing their knowledge about issues such as publishing, forests, online communication, paper and coalition building. Responsibilities: The Better Paper Project Interns responsibilities include: 1. Researching the magazine industry, the pulp/paper industry and the environmental impacts of publishing. 2. Writing white papers about environmental publishing and related topics. 3. Creating articles about environmental publishing and related topics. 4. Contributing to the Better Paper Projects online newsletter by writing blogs and identifying newsletter content. Training: 1. Training on green marketing, the magazine industry, the paper/pulp industry, forestry and other relevant subject areas. 2. Participation in webinars related to research topics. 3. Involvement, as required, in regular conference calls with colleagues from the Environmental Paper Network and the Green America Programs Team. 4. Regular check-ins with the Better Paper Project Director

Job Skills and Requirements: 1. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 2. Background in media, journalism, publishing and/or environmental studies. 3. Strong research and analytic skills 4. Good people skills, ability to get people to work together, team player. 5. Flexibility and ability to deal with schedule changes in tasks. 6. Strong computer skills, including specific competence with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email list 7. management software. 8. Ability to take initiative and work on projects with light supervision. 9. Willingness to get help and ask questions when confronting complex technical or procedural issues.
