Srila Gurudeva Bangalore Tour Report

The new matha in Heserghatta, Bangalore, South India is called Sri Ranganatha Gaudiya Matha. The matha is located on an attractive natural setting over 5 acres of land. This land is the punya-bhumi (the holy land) visited by Sri Vyasadeva, Sri Vyasa Tirtha, Sri Brahmanya Tirtha, Sri Durvasa Muni, Sri Ramanujacarya, Sri Srimad Bhakti Prajnana Kesava Gosvami Maharaja, our beloved Srila Gurudeva, Sri Srimad Bhakti Vallabha Tirtha Gosvami Maharaja and other prominent Vaisnava acaryas. Srila Gurudeva approved the land and Sripada Bhakti Vedanta Dandi Maharaja acquired the land in April 2005. Srila Gurudeva named the matha appropriately as Sri Ranganatha Gaudiya Matha. Sri Ranganathaji (Lord Visnu) has an opulent temple in South India. The temple is a round structure. Sripada Bhaktivedanta Tirtha Maharaja performed the installation ceremony of the Deities of Sri Sri Radha Krsna and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu at the matha in June 2005. He also performed the inauguration of the new brahmacari asrama. The farm has more than 100 coconut trees and 50 mango trees. The entire setting reminds one of Hawaii. Plenty of seasonal vegetables and fruits grow on the farm. The unlimited supply of sweet water is very conducive for the food selfsufficiency of the matha. Srila Gurudeva arrived in Bangalore to visit Sri Ranganatha Gaudiya Matha on July 25 with Sripada Bhaktivedanta Madhava Maharaja and other intimate devotees. Srila Gurudeva delivered very sweet hari-katha from July 29 to July 31 in the evening public programs. He also showered the nectar of hari-katha in the Bangalore city programs. The new and old devotees alike attended all these programs in good number. Srila Gurudeva also spoke hari-katha to about 200 schoolchildren. Many of these young schoolchildren already began chanting the maha-mantra. Srila Gurudeva gave informal darsanas in the evenings, expertly answered questions, and clarified doubt of the devotees. Srila Gurudeva especially stressed the importance of accepting and serving a bonafied spiritual master. Srila Gurudeva mostly spoke in Hindi, followed by the translation in the local language Kannada. Sripada Bhaktivedanta Madhava Maharaja gave beautiful classes in the mornings.

About 40 devotees received hari-nama and diksa. The fire sacrifice was conducted in the morning and Srila Gurudeva announced the names of the new initiates in the evening. This was the first time Srila Gurudeva came to Bangalore, although our Paramagurudeva (Srila Gurudevas spiritual master Sri Srimad Bhakti Prajnana Kesava Gosvami Maharaja) had visited Bangalore. Srila Gurudeva had a long-standing desire to visit this city for preaching. Moreover, he also has a desire to visit the nearby Udupi, the location of Srila Madhvacaryas Gopala Deity. Srila Gurudeva predicts that about 1000 devotees will stay in the matha in future. He encouraged devotees to cultivate more brahmacaris, distribute his books and preach strongly. He requested the devotees to take care of the mango and other trees in the asrama surroundings. He surveyed in the entire asrama surroundings and gave valuable suggestions for the upkeep of the property. Srila Gurudeva approved the plan for a small Vedic gurukula for young helpless children, an asrama for elderly devotees, Sri Caitanya cikitsalaya (medical clinic) for treating the ailing devotees, and so on. He also wants the devotees to keep two desi cows in the cowshed for Thakurajis seva. When all the devotees went for sabji bhiksa (collecting vegetables from the market), Srila Gurudeva jokingly said that devotees can also request one truck for the matha. Heserghatta has a great historical significance. This place was known as Vyaserghatta (literally Sri Vyasadevas place of bhajana). However, over a period, the name has changed to Heserghatta. There many prominent locations nearby the matha and Srila Gurudeva on visited a few of them on the recent tour. Cave of Sri Vyasadeva Srila Vyasadevas cave is located about 1 km from our matha. Two giant boulders make this cave. Nearby there is an ancient Sri Siva temple built in stone. Bhimas footprints These footprints are about 2 km from the matha. Sri Bhima, the strongest among all the Pandavas, fought with Kicaka, the maternal uncle of Srimati Uttara-devi,

the mother of Sri Pariksit Maharaja, when the Pandavas were in agyata-vasa hidden exile. Many of his footprints are present even today. His footprints were marked on the rocks as he fought with Kicaka. Sri Sri Laksmi Nrsimhadeva Temple Sri Durvasa rsi established the deity of Sri Sri Laksmi Nrsimhadeva in the town of Heserghatta. The deity is carved out of a salagrama-sila. Sri Vyasa Tirtha, the guru of Sri Laksmipati Tirtha, and the parama-guru of Sri Madhavendra Puripada visited this temple of Sri Sri Laksmi Nrsimhadeva. In addition, Sri Ramanujacarya, the prominent Sri Vaisnava sampradaya acarya visited this temple. Srila Gurudeva also visited this temple to take the darsana of the Lord. Sri Vyasadeva compiled his literary works in front of the temple. Sri Venu-gopala Temple and Panca-pandava Temple in Aivara-khanda-pura The Pandavas installed this beautiful deity of Sri Venu-gopala, Sri Krsna playing the flute. Sri Radhika and Sri Lalita (Sri Rukmini and Sri Satyabhama as per the Pujari) also surround the Lord. This temple is about four kms from the matha. This temple is located in the village named Aaivara-khanda-pura (in Kannada, the village where the five Pandavas were seen). Even today, there is a temple of five Siva lingas named as Dharmesvara, Bhimesvara, Arjunesvara, Nakulesvara, and so on in this village. There are many stone tablets with ancient inscriptions around the temple. There is also an old Deity of Sri Hanuman, which was installed by Sri Vyasa Tirtha. Caturbhuja Krsna Temple at Kakola This four-armed Deity of Krsna was installed by about 2 kms from the matha by Sri Vyasa Tirtha. However due to the flood conditions of the Heserghatta river (which used to supply water to entire Bangalore even 8 years ago), this Deity was relocated in early part of the last century to the present location in Kakola, about 10 kms from our matha. The following excerpt of Srila Gurudevas lecture stresses the importance of Sri Guru and guru-nistha strong faith in Sri Guru. This is prema-mayi seva. Though Krsna is Bhagavan she chastises and corrects Him. She ties Him to the grinding mortar. Do not be wicked anymore. More than her is the gopis' service. Among them Radhika's service. These are all services.

This should be the goal of life. Such prema-mayi bhakti (loving devotional service). Why did I say so much? So that we can understand that the happiness is in the service of Bhagavan. What type of service to Bhagavan? aradhyo bhagavan vrajesa tanayas...kalpita. The service done by gopis to Krsna. Prema-mayi seva (loving devotional service). Krsna becomes captivated by that service. He cannot repay them. There Uddhava also says vande nanda vraja strinam pada renu abhiksnasah O gopis, to accept your foot dust I want to become shrub, creeper, etc. I want to become a blade of grass. Uddhava becoming grass, is present in Vrndavana in Uddhava Kunda. Therefore in every one's life, what is basic and most important? The worship like gopis comes in our heart. This should be the topmost goal of life. So what should be goal of life? Prema-mayi bhakti. Also that bhakti should be like the gopis. That is the goal of life. However how we will have to begin? You will have to begin from the bottom. Where will the sraddha come from? It is said in the Vedas yasya deve para bhaktir yatha deve tatha gurau (Only unto those great souls who have implicit faith in both the Lord and the spiritual master are all the imports of Vedic knowledge automatically revealed.) Just as we have service attitude, prema towards Bhagavan , loving service [premamayi seva]. Same should be towards guru. Then only bhakti is possible, otherwise not. The bhakti will come from guru. tasmad gurum prapadyeta jijnasuh sreya uttamam ( Any person who is seriously desirous of achieving real happiness must seek out a bona fide spiritual master and take shelter of him by initiation. The qualification of a spiritual master is that he must have realized the conclusion of the scriptures by deliberation and arguments and thus be able to convince others of these conclusions. Such great personalities, who have taken complete shelter

of the Supreme Godhead, leaving aside all material considerations, are to be understood as bona fide spiritual masters. Srimad-Bhagavatam (11.3.21)) For bhakti, go to Sri Guru. It is not possible without guru. Ritviks cannot do. Ritviks have no relationship with bhakti. Give up thinking about them. Come above it. Do not believe in ritviks. Bogus. We will have go to guru. What does guru do? guru establishes the relationship with Krsna. 'Di' divya jnana -( transcendental knowledge ) knowledge about Krsna. maya-tattva, jiva-tattva, krsna-tattva, radha-tattva, bhakti-tattva, rasa-tattva. All this given by guru. Ritviks cannot give this. Ritviks do not have all these qualities. Ritviks are of four types. brahma, ardhvayu, hota, udgata. One who oversees is brahma. Ardhvayu. One who offers oblations is hota. Udgata - who does stava-stuti. They have no relationship with bhakti. Give them charity [daksina] and they will go away. No relationship. You should understand. Therefore without guru, it will not work. Sastras (scriptures) say further. bhayam dvitiyabhinivesatah syad (Fear arises when a living entity misidentifies himself as the material body because of absorption in the external, illusory energy of the Lord. When the living entity thus turns away from the Supreme Lord, he also forgets his own constitutional position as a servant of the Lord. This bewildering, fearful condition is effected by the potency for illusion, called maya. Therefore, an intelligent person should engage unflinchingly in the unalloyed devotional service of the Lord, under the guidance of a bona fide spiritual master, whom he should accept as his worshipable deity and as his very life and soul. (Srimad Bhagavatam 11.2.37)) In that, 'guru devatatma'. Only serve guru. First do guru-arcana (worship of Sri Guru). Then Krsna's. Other wise sarvam nisphalam bhavet. Everything will be fruitless. First serve guru. First worship him. Then Bhagavan. So one who does not have guru, who will he offer first obeisances? Who will he worship? Then there will no bhakti. This is a straightforward matter. Krsna by his flute song gave gopala mantra and Kama-gayatri to Brahmaji. Then who did Brahma give it to? To Narada. Who did Narada give it to? To Vyasa. Vaysaji had many disciples. Sukadeva also. Now Madhvacarya was also disciple of Vyasadeva. Vyasatirtha and so on became his disciples. Therefore Vyaserghatta, Heserghatta (Srila Gurudeva refers to the present location). This is not possible without guru. Caitanya Mahaprabhuji, Sri Ramacandraji, Krsna took guru. What was the need of making guru? Therefore, if you desire happiness, then go to sad-guru (a

qualified guru). He will give sambandha-jnana (knowledge of relationship) with Krsna. Many people have mistaken (confused) understanding. They have wrong notion. Bhakti Vedanta Swami Prabhupada gave diksa. If he gave diksa means he gave prema. Then how did they fall down? Almost all his sannyasis from top to bottom have fallen down and even now people are becoming householders. They are still getting married giving up everything. Why is it so? Did he not know? Yes, He knew it. Despite knowing, by giving hari-nama through them he preached the holy names of Krsna all over the world. However the living entity is independent. Even Bhagavan does not interfere in his independence. Therefore the living entity can make proper or improper use of his desire. If this was not the case, why did the living entity come in this world. Why did he not serve Bhagavan? Therefore he gave diksa to the living entity. Diksa is of two types. One is diksa of sabda-brahma (spiritual sound). Vidvad-rudhi and the other advidvad rudhi. Guru gives diksa to the qualified people and establishes their relationship with Krsna. What relationship you have with Krsna. We are His servants, however the servants are of also five types. santa, dasya, sakhya, vatsalya, madhurya. In this way, there is the relationship with Sri Krsna. Who are we? Who will tell us? Guru understands his perfected [siddha] form and knowing this also gives knowledge to his disciple. Moreover, he makes a relationship with Krsna. What is your relationship among these? Especially the people who have come in the sampradaya of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, those who have accepted the proper guru, their relationship with Krsna is like gopis. In Gopala mantra and so on, this is given. Therefore, if anyone desires bhakti, today, right now. Just as it has been said in Bhagavata. labdhva sudurlabham idam bahu-sambhavante manusyam arthadam anityam apiha dhirah turna yateta na pated anumrtyu yavan (After many births we have attained this human form; therefore before death comes, we should engage ourselves in the transcendental loving service of the Lord. That is the fulfillment of human life. Srimad Bhagavatam 11.9.29) Turnam, very quickly, there is no guarantee of human form of life, giving up ritvikism for ever. Accept a sad-guru (qualified guru). After accepting the sad-guru, establish a relationship with Krsna, by serving guru, do bhajana. Rupa Goswami has given sixty four limbs of bhakti. What is the very first limb? adau guru padasraya. if there is no guru-padasraya, then where will bhakti come from? Then after taking padasraya (taking shelter at Sri gurus lotus feet), siksa (accepting instructions) and diksa, visrambhena gurau seva (serving Sri guru with intimacy).

Then you do service to Krsna. So if they do not accept the words of Rupa Gosvami, who is antaranga-parsada of Caitanya Mahaprabhu, then where from bhakti shall come? Dont delay. At once, in a moment you should give up ritvik and all bogus things and try to have a bonafied guru. Then you will be happy and real bhakti will come. You should know that you have not left your house, relatives, your wealth, position, for ISKCON or ritviks. Only for bhakti you have come. (unclear). Ritviks have no bhakti. I know. Those who are characterless and so many things, bad qualities. Now they are ritviks. How they can give bhakti? I know they cannot. Never. They cannot. Any qualified, bonafied guru, search him. Moreover, if you tell that after Swamiji there is no guru in this world, that is a bogus thing. If no guru, the world will be ruined. Always, at the time of satya-yuga, Narada was there, Vyasa was there, all others were there, in Treta-yuga Vasistha and others, in the time of dvaparayuga, Bhaguri, Sandilya and so many rsis, now Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Isvara Puri, Madhavendra puri. They all were gurus, and until now, you see. Even now, Swamiji has initiated so many. Our Guru Maharaja, his all god-brothers, Bhakti Raksaka Sridhara Gosvami Maharaja, Gosvami Maharaja, Bana Maharaja, Bhakti Dayita Madhava Maharaja, they are making disciples and their disciples also making disciples. Everywhere preaching is going on. So you should not think after Prabhupada there will be no guru. This is absurd and false. So at once, request. You find a bonafied guru and become happy forever. Devotees : Gaura Hari bol! Janmastami Report Sri Krsna Janmastami (appearance day of Lord Sri Krsna), Sri Nandotsava, Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupadas appearance day were celebrated with great enthusiasm at Sri Ranganatha Gaudiya Matha. About 40 devotees participated. Sripada Bhaktivedanta Vaikhanasa Maharaja, Sripada Bhaktivedanta Dandi Maharaja and Sripada Bhaktivedanta Vishnu Daivata Maharaja gave hati-katha to the faithful devotees. Excellent Krsna-prasadam was served to all the devotees. Radhastami Sri Radhastami (appearance day of Srimat Radhika and Srimati Visakha) was celebrated with great enthusiasm. Devotees cooked a nice feast for the pleasure of the divine couple. About 50 devotees partook Lords holy prasada.

Miscellaneous News By the causeless mercy of Srila Gurudeva and Lord Sri Krsna, the Heserghatta lake which was dry for last many years, has filled up to brim. This lake used to supply water to the entire Bangalore city in the past. There have been abundant rain-showers. The temple devotees plan to plant banana, chickpeas, ragi, groundnuts, and other fruit and vegetable trees during this rainy season. The cooking is done with the wood from the nearby trees. Thus, Lord Sri Krsna can enjoy organic vegetables from the nearby garden. We request all the devotees to visit this farm and give us your kind association. Please write to Sripada Bhaktivedanta Dandi Maharaja at bvdandi@purebhakti.com in advance about your plans to visit us.
