MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY
Muscular Dystrophy is a major national undertaking on behalf of The United States Jaycees to aid in the fight that willsomeday result in a cure of neuromuscular disease. In the years since the adoption of the program on the national level, Jaycees across America have raised over $16 millionfor Muscular Dystrophy research programs. Each year, more than 3,000 Jaycee chapters conduct various fundraising programs. The final check presentation is made by The U.S. Jaycees president to Jerry Lewis on the Labor Day Telethon. Many unique and creative fundraising projects are conducted on the local level. Some chapters sell invisible gold fish or doughnut seeds. Many chapters have had success with softball tournaments, road blocks and diamond digs. The months of March, April and May are emphasis months with the March Through May For MDA program. There is a March Through May information packet available with additional project ideas. Several big name celebrities have appeared at national Jaycee functions to promote the program, including Jerry Lewis, David Hartman, Wayne Newton and Olympic Gold Medalist Bart Conner. A major promotional effort involving chapter and state organizations has been the development of a comprehensive incentive program. The top Jaycee fundraising chapters in each state receive plaques recognizing their efforts each year. Jaycees also have the opportunity to win a free trip to Las Vegas by reaching their predetermined goals. Order the Muscular Dystrophy Kit (5257-0);$1.50.

ship. In the spring that year, The U.S. Jaycees and Daisy Manufacturing Company, the world's oldest and largest manufacturer of non-powder guns and ammunition, joined forces to create the Shooting Education program. Shooting Education is a program that satisfies a community need that becomes more urgent each year. Hunter-shooter populations continue to grow, open land areas are shrinking and more Americans keep guns in their homes. Most gun accidents involving persons between the ages of 8 and 14 can be traced to improper gun handling. The need for well-organized and detailed instruction inproper gun handling and marksmanship has now become a community-wide responsibility. Order the Shooting Education Kit (5232-0);$1.50.

GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS
The u.s. Jaycees currently promotes several programs in the Governmental Affairs area. These programs are designed to promote governmental awareness in America. Impact Program - This is a promotional campaign which addresses the need for increased citizens' involvement in the election process at all levels of government on. a year-round basis. This program will result in a more informed voter population entering the pollon election day. Jaycees' voter registration efforts can be one, or a combination of, the following. 1. A specific concentrated effort within the chapter. 2. An all-out effort to convince citizens to vote. 3. A joint effort with other civic organizations to ensure the greatest possible voter registration effort. There are two basic approaches to the Get -OutThe-Vote (GOTV) campaign; canvassing on a one-onone basis and voter service. There are a variety of ideas in the IMPACT manual that can be used to ensure the success of the Jaycees' efforts to enhance voter awareness. (5048-0); $1.00. Model Legislature - Another part of Governmental Affairsis the Model Legislature program, designed to allow Jaycees the opportunity to become actively involved in the legislative process. Chapter members meet as representatives or senators to actively discuss and vote on legislative bills that are submitted by local chapters. Jaycee involvementinthe state ModelLegislature program takes the Jaycee out of the shadow of state government and puts each individual in the limelight of active participation. (783-1);$2.00.
