Exemptions and Advanced Standing


The Faculty of Design has existing agreements with a number of different institutions both in Australia and overseas. Depending on the previous educational background of the student, different levels of advanced standing may be awarded. The following table is provided to help students with advanced standing understand what they will be required to complete under the new Flexible Degree Structure. Domestic students: All exemptions should be applied for at enrolment. Students will be required to supply any prior academic transcripts and in some cases a portfolio of work. A full list of requirements is available from the Faculty of Design website. International students: International students are typically assessed for exemptions during the application process. Further exemptions will only be granted in special circumstances. Changing Co-Majors or Minors


Students will not typically commence a Co-Major or Minor until the second year of their program. If you would like to change your Co-Major or Minor please consult with a member of staff. Please note that changing your enrolment after commencing a Co-Major or Minor may result in you having to complete more than 24 units of study in order to graduate.

Professional Learning Model


Careers in the Curriculum is part of the Swinburne Professional Learning Model. It is a compulsory, fee exempt unit targeted at developing career planning and career management skills. Most students will undertake this unit of study during the second year of their program. The Professional Learning Model also includes alternative study options such as study tours, international exchange and industry placement.
