C028 STEEL WORKS ERECTION AND CLADDING INSTALLATION


SECTION C TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
C.1. SCOPE OF WORKS This contract includes all materials, plant, equipment, permits, tools, temporary facilities, labour, supervision, overhead and everything required to accomplish the installation of cladding and related work, in accordance with the Contract drawings and construction specification. The following list of work is to be performed by the Contractor in accordance with the Drawings, Technical Specifications, Bill of Quantities and other parts of the Contract, but shall not limit the paragraph above, nor does it constitute a complete list of the work under the Contract. Cladding * Installation of all wall and roof sheeting including all necessary flashings and fixtures, and safety mesh. * Installation of roof ridge ventilator cladding. * Installation of all rainwater goods including gutters and downpipes (downpipes supply by other) * Installation of downpipe connections to discharge points. * Installation insulation where indicated on the drawings. * Bird proofing to all areas as detailed and as necessary. * Disposal off site of all surplus materials generated from the works of this contract.

C.2. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS


C.2.1 SITE MEETINGS These shall be held at regular intervals, or at times to be decided upon during the course of the work, presided over and minuted by the Engineer, and attended by the Contractors Site Works Manager. The Employer shall have the right to attend. The Employer will provide suitable facilities for the holding of such meetings. From time to time, Subcontractors may be required by the Engineer to attend, (but this should be rare, since the Contractor is expected to solve his Subcontractors problems outside such meetings) C.2.2 CONTRACTORS REPRESENATIVE The name of the Contractors Site Works Manager proposed shall be given to the Engineer and he shall be available for interview by the Engineer before appointment. The Contractors representative, following acceptance by the Engineer, shall not be changed other than with the Engineers written approval. The Contractors representative shall be contactable by telephone outside normal working hours, the Contractor shall notify the Employer and the Engineer of this phone number.

In addition, details of the Owner or Director of the Contractors company must be provided. It is expected that the Owner or Director shall attend site at least weekly and be readily contactable to all times. C.2.3 TEMPORARY FACILITIES Sheds etc The Contractor shall provide all sheds etc complete including all necessary site levelling, steps for access, power supply, drainage etc as may be required. The Contractor shall be allowed sheds equivalent to 2x 20 Ft containers and these may be located to the south of the site as directed. Telephone The Contractor shall arrange for his own telephone facilities througout the contact and pay all charges arising there from. Lavatories The Civil contractor shall provide and maintain temporary toilet facilities for the use of all Contractors on site. The Steel works erections & Cladding Installation Contractor will be required to assist in keeping these clean or FAB TEK will employ person specifically for this duty. The cost will back charge to all Contactor basing on your number of worker. Power, Water, etc The Employer will provide power and water from limited locations on site. Any modifications or extensions to these services required by the Contractor shall be with the consent of the Engineer and the expense of the Contractor, including making good at the completion of the works. The Contractor shall provide earth leakage units for each distribution board of his users of the site power supply. C.2.4 SITE REQUIREMENTS

Damage to Property Where any property (including roads, drives, landscaping and footpaths) has been disturbed by the Contractor, he shall make this good at his cost to the satisfaction of the Local Authority or the Employer, as the case may be. Existing Dimensions The Contractor shall be responsible for verifying all dimensions by checking against actual Site measurements. In particular, this responsibility includes his Subcontractors measurements of asbuilt dimensions to enable them to fabricate accurately. Parking Parking for the Contractor and his employees vehicles (motorcycles and bicycles only) shall be confined to an area so set aside by the Employer to be agreed with the Contractor. The Contractor
will be responsible for the safety of all vehicles on the site and will employ persons to take care of this duty.

Keep Access Open The Contractor shall keep at least half the width of the roadway open and passable to traffic at all times. The least possible interference, consistent with the carrying out of the Contract Works, shall be inflicted on traffic. Barricades, warning signs, and, if necessary, watchmen shall be maintained at each end of the section of the road being used to fully protect and divert passing traffic and to control speeds. Where required by the Local Authority or the law, to safeguard the travelling public during darkness, the Contractor shall provide warning signs, lights, barricades and the like on any Temporary Works, Plant or Materials offering obstructions. When the necessity for warning notices no longer exists, all such signs etc shall be immediately removed. Co-operation with the Employer The Employer will be continuing his operations at his premises during the course of the works. The Contractor is required to plan and execute the works of the Contract is such a manner that the Employers operations will be able to continue with minimum disruption. Except as noted, the Contractor will not have use of any of the Employer facilities, plant, equipment etc. Cranage Not less than ten Working Days before any crane is used on Site, the Contractor shall notify the Engineer in writing of all details of the cranage proposed. The Contractor shall comply with all particular requirements which may be notified to him in writing concerning the use of cranes on Site. Similarly, any proposed change in cranage arrangements shall be notified to the Engineer and any further requirements in such respect shall be complied with. Site Fencing/Security The perimeter of the area of the Works will be securely fenced from the existing facility and a security team will be provided by the Employer throughout the contract to prevent access to the Site by unauthorised persons and to contain the Contractor and his employees and Sub Contractors to the immediate site. The Contractor shall comply with all reasonable requests from the security personnel. All employees will be required to sign on when arriving at the site and sign-off when leaving the site. The Contractor must provide a list of approved employees to the security staff on commencement of the Works. C.2.5 CONTRACTS INTERFACE

a) Separate Contractors The Contractors attention is drawn to the fact that the Employer will be engaging separate contractors on and adjacent to the Site for the execution of other facets of the project which do not form a part of this Contract. b) Coordination Set out the works so as to co-ordinate with other services, including area-by-area discussions with all appropriate Contractors.

Payment will not be made for any abortive manufacture, fabrication or installation work which has been due to the failure of the Contractor to carry out the above procedures. c) Unsatisfactory Conditions Should the Contractor consider that the work of a separate contractor is not suitable for his own work thereon, he shall so notify the Engineer before any work is done, and shall not proceed until the necessary alteration or agreed improvement has been made. Failing such notice, the Contractor shall be deemed to be satisfied with the work of separate contractors in so far as he is able to satisfactorily finish his own work thereon. C.2.7 MATERIALS The Works shall be constructed throughout of new unused materials and components, of the highest quality. The Codes and Standards specified or referred to in the Contract shall be deemed to be the minimum level of acceptability by the Employer. Different Codes and Standards may however be used, provided the Contractor demonstrates equivalence as a minimum in writing to the Engineer. C.2.8 TRANSPORT AND PACKING By Other All Materials and equipment shall be packed for transport to Site, so as to prevent damage or deterioration of all kinds including but not limited to moisture, corrosion, impact acceleration and vibration. Equipment or materials which show evidence of significant defects, improper fabrication, excessive repairs, or are not in accordance with the requirements of this Specification, shall be rejected. Loose component parts shall be suitably packed and protected from damage during shipment. Identification markings shall be placed on suitably sized steel tags securely wired with stainless wire to the item. The Contractor will be responsible for all damage incurred during transit, owing to inadequate packing, or otherwise. C.2.9 INSPECTION The Contractor and Engineer shall agree a programme of inspection and testing for workmanship and materials within 30 days of the Commencement Date. The Contractor shall be responsible for all work and testing carried out by his personnel or any of his Subcontractors and Suppliers. An inspection carried out by the Engineer shall not relieve the Contractor of his obligation to meet the requirements of the Specification. All inspections and tests shall be carried out according to methods specified in the Contract Specifications and referenced standards, or proposed by the Contractor and agreed upon by the Employer. The Engineer is entitled to inspect, during construction, the Contractors Works without advance announcement. The Contractor shall inform the Engineer, a minimum of 14 days in advance of any parts ready for final inspection/tests, in his or his Subcontractors workshops. The material certificates of all

applied materials, shall be presented to the Engineers inspector for checking and verification. All inspections/tests shall be recorded. Records of all inspections shall be completed and agreed with the Engineer, prior to shipment of the items subject to inspection. C.2.10 TESTS ON COMPLETION Refer to individual technical specifications. C.2.11 CLEANING Progress Cleaning: During the progress of the work, the Contractor shall keep the premises in a neat and orderly condition, free from construction debris. Finished surfaces shall be kept thoroughly clean, free from mud, dirt and other foreign matter. Final Cleaning: Prior to final acceptance of the work by the Employer, the Contractor shall remove from the site all of his tools, equipment, scaffolding, temporary structures and surplus materials, clearing the site to the satisfaction of the Engineer. This shall include a final Builders Clean to removal all dust, debris, and clean all surfaces complete to the satisfaction of the Engineer and ready for immediate occupation by the Employer. Cleaning by Employer: Note that if the Progress Cleaning or Final Cleaning is not carried out to the satisfaction of the Engineer the Engineer shall arrange for it to be carried out by others, and the cost of such cleaning shall be deducted from the Contract Sum. C.2.12 REVIEW BY THE ENGINEER Review of Contractors sketches, drawings, diagrams and equipment date shall mean a review of the general performance, layout, principles and techniques involved. It shall not be construed as implying in any way that the Works are carried out in the required manner, nor that the coordination and setting out is correct. This responsibility rests wholly with the Contractor. Review means for suitability of appearance and a general review of workmanship for apparent compliance with the requirements. Review by the Engineer when used in relation to matters other than above means a general review for apparent compliance with the requirements. Such reviews or inspections with no exceptions taken does not relieve the Contractor of any of his obligations for producing materials, equipment and workmanship which are in compliance with the requirements. Submit three copies of all drawings and documents to the Engineer (Finished Result site office) for review. One copy will be returned within 5 working days of receipt by the Engineer. In addition to the hard copies send by mail, drawings shall be submitted electronically in AutoCAD format. Resubmit in amended form where required by Engineer. Neither failure to make these submission on time, nor any requirement by the Engineer calling for amendment or resubmission relieves the Contractor of any of his obligations. C.2.13 AS-BUILT DRAWINGS C.2.13.1General

The Contractor shall prepare and submit such drawings, diagrams and schedules as will, in the opinion of the Engineer, provide an adequate record of the work as installed. During construction the Contractor shall keep accurate records of the actual construction. One set of the Contractors and Employers Drawings and any shop drawings shall be used by the Contractor specifically for the preparation of "As-Built" Drawings. This set shall be kept up-to-date by the Contractor at his Site Office to include all changes from the original Drawings. These prints shall be available on request for inspection by the Engineer. Preliminary "As-Built" Drawings shall then be prepared by the Contractor from the "marked up" set, and two copies submitted to the Engineer prior to Taking-Over. These prints shall show in detail the full extent of the installation, as built. The Engineer shall review the preliminary "As Built" Drawings and return 1 copy to the Contractor with comments. The Contractor shall produce the fully amended As-Built Drawings, checked and certified correct by the Contractor, in the form of A3 copies folded into the Operating and Maintenance Manuals, plus one disk copy (3 diskette or CD), titled As-Built Drawings, or, manually delivered by way of USB. As-Built Drawings shall be supplied within one month of receiving the returned preliminary AsBuilt Drawings. These shall be available 30 days after Taking-Over. C.2.13.2Format The completed As-Built Drawings produced by the Contractor shall be in the form of best quality copies which are properly draughted to scale and clear to read. Dimensions shall be in SI units. The drawings shall have the relevant particulars at the bottom right- hand corner including the project title, Contractors name, title of drawings, scale, date and drawing number. The paper prints shall be bound together neatly and provided with a title and index to the Engineer's approval. All CAD generated documents shall be supplied on disk in a format compatible with AUTOCAD. Preferred formats .DWG and DXF. Non CAD generated documents to be supplied on disk in a Microsoft software or compatible format.

C.3. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION CLADDING


C.3.1 STANDARDS: Roof panels shall be Clean Colorbond XRW Bluescope G550-AZ150 0.5mm thickness nominal, conceal fixing type requirement as Metecno Viet Nam profile. C.3.2 TRANSPORT AND STORAGE Adequately protect all material during transport and whilst stored on site from physical damage and damage from water and staining. All material shall be transported and stored in strict accordance with the manufacturers recommendations. Any damaged material shall be removed from site and replaced with sound material. C.3.3 MATERIAL: supply by other C.3.4 INSTALLATION C.3.4.1 General All work is to be carried out by specialist tradesman strictly in compliance with the Manufacturers recommendations as detailed in their current published installation and technical manuals and in

accordance with SAA HB39-1992 Code of Common Practice for Steel Roofing. The whole building shall be completely weatherproof. Any damaged sheets shall be removed from site and replaced with sound material. Repairing or touching up of Colorbond sheeting is prohibited. Prevent direct contact between incompatible metals and between green hardwood or chemically treated timber and aluminium or coated steel, by coating with a suitable anticorrosion low moisture transmission coating to contact surfaces. Sheet fastenings shall be to AS1562, Rule 2.2. Do not use incompatible metals in fastenings of metal roofing and accessories. Any cutting of sheeting and flashings is to be done with hand cutters. Cutting with discs will not be permitted. C.3.4.2 Fixing Standard fasteners shall be No. 14, Type A, self tapping or self drilling metal screws and EPDM washers. All screws shall have hexagonal heads, and made of zinc plated steel, plain, or color coated, or capped subject to availability. Lay and fix sheeting in strict accordance with the Manufacturers recommendations or as noted on the drawings. Fix barges, flashings and special mouldings as necessary to make the building completely weatherproof. Fix gutters and downpipes as shown on drawings complete with all necessary supports from the steelwork and seal downpipes into stormwater drain points installed by others. All downpipe fixings shall be coloured to match the sheeting colour. C.3.4.3 Sisalation and Insulation Install to AS 1904, to roof areas only where specified. Overlap sisalation courses not less than 150mm. Lay a continuous layer of insulation over the sisalation where indicated on the drawings. Insulation to be 50mm thk fiberglass with single Alum. face. Insulation shall be supplied by Client. C.3.4.4 Ridges and Eaves Treat ends of sheets as follows: a) Effectively turn pans of sheets up at tops and turn down into gutters at bottoms by mechanical means. b) Provide ridge and eaves fillers of rubber or polyethylene foam. c) Project sheets 50mm into gutters. C.3.4.5 Laps The roof sheets are to have stepped laps where detailed. No other laps will be permitted. The wall sheets are to be full length without joints/laps. New roof sheeting shall lap with existing sheeting in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations. C.3.4.6 Gutters: supply by other

Eave gutters shall be box shaped, color coated, 0.5 mm nominal thickness galvanized steel The outside face of the gutter shall be supported with color coated 0.5 mm nominal thickness galvanized straps to the eave member at a maximum spacing of 1.2 m. Downspouts shall be rectangular shaped, color coated 0.5 mm nominal thickness galvanized steel. Downspouts shall have a 45 degree elbow at the bottom connection to the manhole at the end of the downspouts and shall be supported by attachment to the wall covering at 3.0 m maximum spacing. Downpipe support must be hot dip galvanzized Form gutters to the required shape. Mechanically preform, mould or fabricate where possible. Form stop ends, bends and returns down into outlets. Provide fittings as necessary, including joints, bends, expansion joints, returns, outlets (thimbles, spigots and the like) for downpipes and overflows, stop ends, stiffening gussets at corners, supporting brackets, overstraps, and the like, purpose-made if supplied as part of the gutter system. Make provision for overflows where necessary to prevent back flooding into the building. Maximum spacing to comply with AS 2180, clause 1.6.2 and Table 1.2. Minimum falls to gutter to be 1 in 200. Joints in gutters, to be riveted and sealed with sealer, all in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. C.3.4.7 Guarantee Before the issue of the Taking-over Certificate for the Cladding Installation Works will be made, the Cladding Installation Contractor shall provide the Engineer with a guarantee for the weather proofness of the flashings, cladding and rainwater goods. This guarantee shall be effective for three years with effect from the date of Substantial Completion and shall be enforceable by the Employer on the Cladding Installation Contractor. The Cladding Supply Contractor shall supply the necessary guarantees for the materials to allow the Cladding Installation Contractor to provide the required guarantee. C.3.4.8 Completion Clean down all roofing and gutters and remove all surplus materials and waste and scrap from the site. C.4 ERECTION STEEL WORK C.4.1 Erection Procedure The Contractor is to submit full details of his proposed erection procedure in writing to the Engineer at least seven days prior to commencement of any work on site. This procedure is to include: (a) The sequence of erection of the steelwork clearly indicating the erection order of all key components. Erection method must not permit eccentric gravity loads on the building frames. (b) Proposed lifting method and lifting points for Frames. Method of stabilizing main frames until their permanent lateral restraint is complete. (d) (e) Information on the Columns proposed at the various erection stages. Information on proposed access equipment and safety procedures.

(f) The Engineer will review the erection procedure and may request additional measures or alternative erection sequencing to ensure adequate stability of the steelwork at all times and to avoid overstressing of components during erection. The Contractor is required to meet all reasonable requests by the Engineer to this end at no extra cost to the Contract, including provision of all temporary props, bracing and/or guy wires as may be deemed necessary. (g) Once the erection procedure has been finalized, the Contractor shall not depart from the procedure without first advising the Engineer in writing. (h) Under no circumstances is work to commence on site until a procedure considered satisfactory by the Engineer has been submitted and finalized. (i) Submission to and review of the erection procedure by the Engineer is to allow the Engineer, as the originator of the permanent design, to consider potential impacts on or impairment of the ermanent works resulting from the Contractors proposed erection procedure. It shall in no way relieve the Contractor of his responsibility for the execution of the works and for the safe and complete erection of the works. The tender will be deemed to include all costs associated with meeting these requirements. C.4.2 Protection of Existing Works (a) The stone base will be filled prior to steel erection. Reasonable care is to be taken during the steel erection to avoid unnecessary damage to the stone base. Any damage that occurs due to the failure of the Contractor to take reasonable precautions will be made good at his expense. (b) The Contractor shall ensure that all existing buildings and equipment adjacent or near site welding and work areas are adequately protected from weld splatter, falling construction debris and equipment or any other construction procedure. C.4.3 Alignment & Tolerances (a) It is the Contractors responsibility to establish the correct levels when erecting the steel to ensure that all members after erection are level, plumb and straight. (b) On completion, all steelwork shall be accurate and within the tolerances nominated in AS 4100. C.4.4 Site Fabrication (a) Except where shown on the drawings, no site welding, grinding or flame cutting is to be carried out without prior approval being obtained from the Engineer. (b) No hot work shall be carried out without a hot work permit being issued by the Engineer. C.4.5 Cleaning Up (a) On completion of work on site, clean up and leave the whole area ready for immediate use by following Contractors to the satisfaction of the Engineer. (b) Touch up all paintwork damaged during cartage and erection.
