The Indian Society for Non - Destructive Testing Chennai Chapter is pleased to announce that the Second ASNT NDT Level IIIRefresher Course 2010 (by the ASNT) in various methods is scheduled to be held at Chennai, India, beginning October 2010 In order to assist the intending aspirants in preparing for the November 2010 ASNT NDT Level III examinations, Refresher Courses in various methods will be conducted under the arrangement of ISNT Chennai Chapter; beginning Oct 2010. Prof Krishnan Balasubramaniam has been involved in the field of Sensors, Acoustics and Non-destructive evaluation for more than nineteen years with application of NDE technology in the fields of maintenance, quality assurance, manufacturing and design. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and also serves as the Head of the Centre for Nondestructive Evaluation and the Head of the Machine Design Section at the Indian Institute of Technology. His areas of specialization includes Nondestructive Evaluation, Intelligent manufacturing, Structural health monitoring, Wave propagation in anisotropic media, Global inspection methods, and Applied data analysis. He has over 125 technical publications and has presented papers at several national and international meetings. He has served as a consultant to multinational companies including GE, Corning Inc., BF Goodrich, Gillette, Caterpillar, Lockheed-Martin, Nipon TV, KaIia Technologies, Sieger Spintech, etc. He is currently a consultant to US Airforce, HAL, Indian Navy, ARDE, GE, etc. He is currently the Principal Investigator in several sponsored research projects funded by DST, DAE, ADA, ISRO and DRDO organizations. He is an active member of ISNT, ASNT, SAMPE, ASME, UIA and ASA and has organized several international symposiums and workshops. He is currently The Chief Editor of Journal of Non Destructive Testing & Evaluation. Prof. O. Prabhakar, B.Tech, Ph.D worked as a Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering. He was also the Head of the Department for three years from 1987 to 1990. Subsequently he took voluntary retirement from the IIT in the year 1998 after teaching and doing research in the areas of nondestructive evaluation and metal casting for nearly 30 years and later he taught at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore from 1998 to 2004. Dr. O. Prabhakar obtained his B.Tech and Ph.D in Metallurgy from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai and M.E in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. His primary areas of interests are nondestructive evaluation and metal casting.

Experience of 38 Years (15 Years of QA in Fabrication and Erection of welded components and 28 Years of NDE Particularly in UE and RE. His areas of specialisations are (a) Radiographic examination of multi-wall components, Digitisation of radiographs and digital radiography and (b) Ultrasonic examination of austenitic stainless steel and specialisation in the area of latest techniques like TOFD and Phased Array. He was method director for UT, RT and MPT for ASNT and ISNT Level III Programmes.
