MDG 4: REDUCE CHILD MORTALITY

During this period, measles deaths dropped by an astonishing 74 percent. This is largely due to immunization campaigns and more concentrated efforts in countries with hard-to-reach areas. Globally there were an estimated 197,000 measles-related deaths in 2007, down from 750,000 in 2000.

Out of 536,000 deaths annually, 99 percent are in developing countries where less than half the pregnancies receive adequate prenatal care, and only 28 out of 100 births are attended by trained health professionals.
