AMUL (Anand Milk Union Limited)

"Anyone who has seen the dairy cooperatives in the state of Gujarat, especially the highly successful one known as AMUL, will naturally wonder what combination of influences and incentives is needed to multiply such a model a thousand times over in developing regions. Amul was founded in 1946. Industry type is dairy, and head quarter is in Anand, India. Amul has further uplifted the white revolution in India and has made India largest producer of milk. It is the largest food brand in India and largest producer of pouched milk, with an annual turnover of $ 1700 million. Beside India Amul is present in Mauritius, UAE, USA, Bangladesh, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, and few South African countries. The Amul Model is a three-tier cooperative structure. The dairy cooperatives have been able to maintain democratic structure at least at the grass-root level.

Who is the leader?


Puja Kotecha is our group leader. A leader is a person who influences a group towards achievement of a goal. She has motivated us to complete our group projects on time. Each one of our group member has tried their best and has contributed to best of their abilities.

What was the leadership style was it functional or dysfunctional?


Our group is functional. A group is said to be functional when all the members share cohesive relation and focus on accomplishment of task in an effective way and contribute maximum in the group work. Characteristics of a functional group areA) Focus on the achievement of collective result. B) Hold one another accountable for delivering those plan of actions. C) Commitment to decisions. D) Engage in unfiltered conflict around ideas E) Trust one another.

What method of decision making did you use? Were there free-riders in the group? How did you involve them in the group project?
Free-riders are people exerting less effort to achieve goal when they work in a group rather than working alone. We dont have any free-rider in our group but there were time when some members didnt contribute to the task. These were the steps taken by our group members to take best out of them. Collaboration- by assigning them some meaningful work and by giving them deadlines. Content-by assigning them task related to their areas of interest. Choice- by providing them freedom to choose their roles. What roles were allocated to the group members and how? We divided each work according to various topics which were then further discussed among every member so that each member gets maximum benefit from the work given to us. E.g.

the task of downloading-the data was divided according to topics and given to every member. We divided the work according to interest of individual and then we all discussed and analysed it. Did you work in a team or group? We worked in a team because we had collective responsibility, where performance of individuals affected the group and we all are accountable for group work. What group pressure did you observe in a group?

What was the leadership style of the group leader? Our leader has a participative type of leadership style, she has an attitude of lets work together , it ensures every ones involvement and provides mutual benefit. Did you experience any kind of conflict amongst the group? Conflict in an inevitable part of group and conflict is necessary for better performance and for the best decisions to be taken. yes, there were certain conflicts regarding the selection of the companies and we faced conflict even during analysis of ratios due to individual thinking. How did you tackle it? We analysed everyones opinion and analysed pros and cons of each option and selected the best option.
