Our text tells us that when you join a group, you rarely know what to expect. I found this to be a very true statement. Team 3 consists of three members, two females and one male. Two members work full time and one member is a full time student. Each of us has children and two have spouses. In the beginning I found myself to be nervous and unsure of how the three of us would interact with one another. Its been a few years since Ive been in a classroom and I was concerned with performing well in my new group. During the forming stage in our group, before we began to work on our presentation, we spent some time to get better acquainted with one another. It gave us a chance to get to know other group members in order for us to perform better as a group. We asked each other questions, and shared information about jobs, family, sports, and school. When we one of us spoke, we gave each other the chance to speak without interruption and most importantly, we listened to each other. This stage gave group members the opportunity to become more familiar with each other and have an understanding of the goals, tasks and expectations of the group. One of the members had mentioned that they normally oppose to being part of a group, and this made me unsure of the outcome. But once we spent time talking to each other and learning more about one another, I felt positive about our working together as a group. According to Tuckmans Group Development Stages, this is an example of primary tension and resolving primary tension.

Storming stage: Team 3 didnt spend much time in this stage. We all agreed in the beginning that we had a lot of work to do and a short amount of time in which to do it. During the storming stage we equally submitted ideas and talked them thru. When we didnt agree, we discussed

other options and found solutions that each of us could agree on. There was a common respect for each others ideas and how they were expressed. There was a situation where we had to reschedule a meeting. Because we had agreed early on to be as flexible as possible, we were able to reschedule our meeting to a time that worked for each member. The way in which the team reacted to this situation showed me that our group was equally concerned with making sure we stayed focused on the groups goals and were willing to put the needs of the group first.

Norming stage: At this stage our group is feeling more relaxed and comfortable with one another. Weve established our group ground rules and each team member has a clear understanding of the goals of the group. We have learned to respectfully disagree with each other and maintain group focus. There was no appointed leader; the responsibilities were divided equally amongst the three of us. We were able to openly express our concerns and communicate them clearly. Performing stage: As Team 3 reached this stage in our group; we are each excited about the project and eager to get started. Each team member is assigned an area of responsibility for the project and the expectations are clear. We are all fully committed to the success of our project. If one member has questions or needs help with their portion, we come together to find a workable solution. The tone of the group is more relaxed and we are able to feel more at ease. Adjourning stage: After the group had completed the presentation, we each felt that we had successfully achieved the group goal of preparing a well-planned, well organized, presentation that would stand out and address each requirement as stated in our syllabus. I asked each group

member how they felt about our performance, each stated they were satisfied with the job we had done. We all expressed that we were all tired from the extra work we had put into the presentation but were looking forward to the next assignment. We feel that now that we have had the opportunity to learn and apply the Tuckmans Group Presentation Stages we will be able to make an even better presentation.
