SacLEGAL Scholarship Award Application 2011 Description and Instructions Sacramento Lawyers for the Equality of Gays and Lesbians (SacLEGAL) is awarding up to $1,000 to qualifying law students who demonstrate a commitment to serve and contribute as future leaders to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. To be eligible, please complete the application on the next page. Your answers should be as complete as possible. Proof of current enrollment as a student in good standing at a law school in Sacramento or Yolo County is required. The award is open to all students, but is geared towards experience as a member of, or your contribution to, the LGBT community.

SacLEGAL is a professional association of attorneys, legal professionals, and legislative advocates, affiliated with the Sacramento County Bar Association. Our mission is to promote equality for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, through strong leadership, legislative advocacy, education, and participation in civic and social activities within the legal community and community at large.
The Sacramento Unity Bar Association is a coalition of six separate bar associations in the Sacramento region, and serves as a collective voice for the Asian/Pacific Bar Association, La Raza Lawyers Bar Association, SacLEGAL, Wiley Manuel Bar Association, South Asian Bar Association of Sacramento, and Women Lawyers of Sacramento. The Unity Bar seeks to promote the interests of attorneys and future attorneys in the increasingly diverse Sacramento region. Each year the Unity Bar hosts an Annual Awards and Scholarship Banquet. The Banquet will be held on: Thursday, October 20, 2011, at the Doubletree Hotel, 2001 Point West Way, Sacramento, CA 95815, (916) 920-8855. Presentation of the awards: The selected award recipient will attend the Sacramento County Unity Bar Annual Awards and Scholarship Banquet as a SacLEGAL guest, where SacLEGAL will present the awards. Answers to each question should be no more than two pages in length, double-spaced in Times New Roman 12-point font, with no less than 1 margins all around: a) Describe your current involvement in community groups, events or causes that directly or indirectly benefit the LGBT community. Include your affiliation, title, or membership of any law school LGBT groups. Describe your professional goals. Include a discussion of how you intend to use your law degree to benefit the LGBT community.
