Educational system in Guatemala

Guatemala at the international level has a detrimental educational sphere, not to mention great average of illiteracy. The origin of illiteracy in Guatemala is given in the colonial period, the school was then a privilege of few people (high society) and others were exploited at work, for high society because it was not desirable that the slaves had the same knowledge that they. Education is important because it is a fundamental ingredient for the development of the country. But every problem in education is due to factors that include study opportunities in this factor are included imbalances in economic, political, geographical, etc. Economic imbalances this is the main factor which would damage the Guatemalan education, as in the country are denied the best education only people who can afford it. This is where private institutions. The political factor this causes the same problem as politicians, the budget given to education is the lowest percentage in all institutions with a little more than 3%, how can it be progress? When there are thousands of schools without furniture not to mention the low pay for teachers, if it exist pay. Geographical problem this factor can be mentioned as a union of the above factors, poverty and political indifference to those living in poorer areas of Guatemala, these areas where light is still a new invention, and where taking classes is an impossible dream. Has talked about the problems facing education in Guatemala today but to further their knowledge but should know more about its structure and its functioning while this in turn is divided into four levels: -Pre-primary -Primary -Medium, is basically divided-diversified -Higher and university education

Pre-primary (4-6 years) characterized by being in the state of Guatemala makes a smaller investment, it is not mandatory prefers to invest at those levels where if you are and that is where private institutions capitalize on the vast majority of students. Primary (7-12 years) this level is mandatory for the state, with greater coverage and greater assistance at all levels. This level has two severe problems that are poor in content structure given by schools and the impartation of materials that do not help anything.

Basic (13-15 years) function of this level is to give students a diverse knowledge about each area so getting as general knowledge about life. The problem in Guatemala is that there are so many areas that the student ends up knowing only a little of each once. Secondary school (16-18 years) gives the state no obligation to follow up this area is known as the economic reality of Guatemala, but this area is designed to prepare students for higher education or to be part of society. Higher Education higher education is given by the universities which have an average of 5 years, requiring close a curriculum of studies adopted a set of final exams, the problem in Guatemala that the rate of people who complete this level is very low.
