s we enter into this fall season, we find many new opportunities at Aledo UMC to deepen our spiritual lives. Our next sermon series, Dream Big, is based on the story of Nehemiah. In this story we are reminded that in uncertain times, God charges Gods people with dreams and with visions that are big and that transform communities and the world. Together, we will look to Nehemiah on how we: Set the Dream, Accomplish the Dream and Celebrate the Dream. As we Dream Big, Gods desired future for East Parker County and around the world is fulfilled. In addition to our many ongoing ministries, we began our Snack Sacks initiative at the beginning of this school year. This ministry serves over 50 students at McCall Elementary school with food for the weekend, and our goal is to expand districtwide by Christmas. We serve the homeless with Broadway Baptist

Church and recently collected back packs for the homeless. We continue our involvement with Center of Hope where we serve food at shelters. Starting October 4th, individuals and couples will have the opportunity to find sacred space and healing through Pastoral Counseling with licensed counselors. God uses Aledo UMC to changes lives and transform communities and has a Big Dream for our church and our community. To help live into that Dream, our church leadership has adopted Vision 2012 which contains strategic goals for our church to help us change lives and transform communities. Please take a look at our website and read about Vision 2012 which sets our goals to expand our ministries, enhances our communications, and provides increased opportunities for spiritual growth for people of all ages. The plan also details campus improvements to enhance our campus appeal to new people in our

community and to people in our community who currently do not have a church home. Vision 2012 will help us live into Gods vision for our church. On October 2nd and 9th, we have an opportunity to make a personal commitment to support the 2012 mission and ministries of the church and an opportunity to support Vision 2012. By giving back to God through the ministries of the church, lives are changed, new people discover the love of Christ, and the kingdom of God is experienced here on earth by transformed communities. Aledo UMC is a great place to be as we Dream Big together. May the Lord bless you and keep you,

Rev. Jason M. Jones

Letters to a Young Doubter
Thursday, October 6, 6:30-7:30pm
In Letters to a Young Poet, the poet Rainer Maria Rilke advises to be patient towards all that is unsolved in your heart and to try to love the questions themselves, for gradually, you will live into the answers. These words have long struck renowned preacher and activist William Sloane Coffin as a wise way to view a growing and evolving life. Thus inspired, Coffin, former university chaplain at Yale, imagined a similar volume of letters. In an exchange of letters over the months of an academic year, Bill writes an imagined bright, young college student, answering his questions and giving typically Coffin-sage advice about problems of faith, the difficulties of personal life, and the ever more confusing and complex problems of todays world. In these letters, Bill Coffin demonstrates that a strong religious faith despite doubts is far stronger than one without doubts. And, as he says, no one so reveals an absence of faith as a dogmatist.

William H. Willimon, noted author, teacher, preacher and now United Methodist Bishop, brings his blunt, eloquent, and humorous style to bear on the question of sin. His penetrating observations will be welcomed by readers who are dissatisfied with shallow, feel-good Christianity (from the left or the right) that does not attempt to grapple with our propensity to do evil.
