General Meeting
On September 23 as another evening when the sun was setting in Miami, the ALPFA members were getting together at Florida International University for their general meeting. The meeting was held as usual in RDB 1100 where over 100 students are attending regularly. The meeting was kicked o by Paola Lacouture, the president for ALPFA, were she explained the agenda of the day. The agenda is as usual the general meeting from 6PM to 7PM where the E-Board will talk about upcoming events and opportunities, afterwards Bruno Cevallos would talk about joining Phi Beta Lambda Future Business Leaders of America. With just $25 more ALPFA members can join PBL for an entire year. Afterwards came Tessie Brunken to talk about the tax competition, Deloittes FanTaxtic and PwC xTax. For PwC xTax will consist of ve members: two sophomores, one junior, and two other members. For Deloitte FanTaxtic will consist of ve members: two sophomores, two juniors/seniors, and one graduate student. Next came Kevin Zamora, president-elect for ALPFA, and reiterated about Ahead of the Game, which is being held on September 29. Ahead of the Game is a career fair where over 30 rms come to recruit students from FIU speci cally ALPFA and Beta Alpha Psi members. And to prepare students for such an important event, Maryia Shkaradzenak took the stage to talk about mock interviews. Mock interviews is an important event in where students can make all the mistakes and polish those interviewing skills to help them land those jobs being o ered in Ahead of the Game. Maryia then introduced Artem Volos where he talked about the Finance Summit that is being held on October 12th. The Finance Summit is a panel of professionals that are in the nance industry where students can bombard them with questions.

Shortly afterwards Camila Barranco came up front to rst talk about the deadline to pay for the membership. She also mentioned a new package that is being o ered. Future Business Leaders of America and ALPFA are teaming up to o er students more opportunities and learning experiences. A student is able to join FBLA for an entire year for just $25 more.

After Bruno Cevallos nished his information session on Future Business Leaders of America Phi Beta Lambda , everyone networked for about ten minutes. Ernst & Young came in and took the stage; they were extremely energetic and pumped the room up. All the E&Y employees introduced themselves and we met the new recruiting coordinator, Dania Duarte, who recently transferred from Charlotte, NC. Welcome, Dania!! After everyone was done introducing themselves and explaining a little bit about what they do, we started playing The recruiting game that was hosted by Cristina Gonzalez. Students were encouraged to ask question from the game. The Ernst & Young sta was extremely prepared; they had all types of questions unimaginable on their game. Once all the questions were answered, students took the oor and were able to network with all the wonderful people from E&Y. At the same time, Finance students from ALPFA attended in RB120 Goldman Sachss presentation, in which Mr. Armando Acosta the vice president of Goldman Sachs at Miami area gave a better Understanding to students on what a career in Goldman Sachs is, and about the global career opportunities with Goldman Sachs,such as the Private Wealth Management and Analyst Program. Mr. Acosta gave an explanation on how to apply for an internship, for sophomores, juniors and seniors and full time jobs. In addition, he talked about the leading nancial services rms and the private equity on investments around 14 countries, 30 o ces globally with 30 in U.S.A. Miami and Palm Beach.

Mock Interviews

The mock interviews were held Saturday, September 24, 2011. It was a complete success for every single student because they were critisized on their interviewing skills. But every student walked out with a smile because they came out learning something new. Over thirty students attended which means thirty students are better prepared for the Ahead of the Game which is coming up this Thursday on September 29th, 2011.

Walt Disney Theme Parks & Resorts - Finance/Accounting Internship Department Overview The department is responsible for managing all business a airs relating to Resorts, Downtown Disney and Theme Parks. Financial Reporting/ Advisory & Assurance Internship


The Professional Intern will be an integral part of the Walt Disney World Financial Reporting or Advisory & Assurance team. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: Assist with the month-end close process, Ensure nancial statements are prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Perform balance sheet account reconciliations, Provide overall support to the department, Review operating guidelines and processes to ensure compliance with Company policy, Conduct internal control reviews to identify control risks and implement changes and enhancements throughout Theme Parks and Resorts (TP&R). Other responsibilities may be assigned based on business need and expertise in a particular area.

Business Operations Internship


The Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Business Operations department is responsible for managing all business a airs relating to Currency Operations, Credit Card Operations, Receivable Operations, Sales Audit and Ticket Ful llment within the global Parks and Resorts Finance organization. Intern assignments can include but are not limited to: Compiling diversi ed and complex statistical analyses and reports Identifying and implementing changes that streamline business processes Auditing sales, both internal and from third parties, to ensure accuracy and completeness Reviewing third party Participant contracts to ensure compliance with nancial terms Compiling analyses that identify the costs associated with credit card acceptance including credit card commissions, chargebacks and potential fraud

Job Opportunities
Operations Finance Internship
The Professional Intern will be responsible for various parts of operations nance including but not limited to Theme Parks Finance, Resorts Finance, Line of Business Finance, HR Finance, IT Finance and several others. Intern assignments include: Preparing statistical records and analyses pertaining to any of a variety of business operations, as well as, obtaining, checking, and compiling data relative to operational and nancial information Compiling diversi ed and complex statistical analyses and reports by accumulating details from original operating and accounting documentations for use by analysts and/or other departments Preparing computer programs, inputting computer data and performing routine and specialized analyses Coordinating budget accumulations and inputting of data from operational areas and assisting in the preparation of analyses. Required Quali cations Current College Junior, Senior or Graduate Student Currently earning a college/university degree in Accounting, Finance or related major with a GPA of 3.2 or higher in Major Demonstrated strong organizational skills and attention to detail Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills Proven problem solving skills Demonstrated strong computer skills (Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint) Materials Required: College transcripts (o cial or uno cial)- Please upload your transcripts while applying online

Internship Eligibility

Must be enrolled in a college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program Not have already completed two consecutive (spring/fall) College or Professional Internship Programs Must possess unrestricted work authorization Must provide full work availability Must provide own transportation to/from work Current Active Disney Cast Members must meet Professional Internship transfer guidelines (no more than four points and/or one reprimand in the last six months) Program Length The approximate dates of this internship are 01/12/12 -06/08/12 Interns must be fully available for the duration of the internship. ALPFA and Beta Alpha Psi would like to cordially invite you to our biannual signature eventAhead of the Game Accounting and Business Expo. This event is designed to be an exclusive career expo catering to Accounting, Finance, and related business fields. Many companies even use it as their primary recruiting event. Event Details: * Thursday, September 29th, 2011 * Time: 4:00 PM 8:00 PM * Location: Graham Center Ballrooms. * Employer Registration will begin at 3:00 PM * There will be two rotations of students * The first will be 4:00 PM -5:45 PM * The second 6:15 PM -8:00 PM. Last Fall, more than 30 firms and companies participated in Business Industry Night and Firms Night, and more than 200 students were in attendance representing the areas of Accounting, Finance, and related business fields. We anticipate the upcoming event to be just as successful.

Next Meeting
The next meeting will be held on September 30th in the same place as usual, RDB 1100, starting at 6PM for our general meeting. , KPMG will be presenting at 7PM for the accounting in RDB 1100 and Bank of America will be presenting for the nance majors in RB 120.
