Christ the King Mission Statement

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

STEWARDSHIP OF TIME
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
From an early age, we tend to distort the concept of fairness: I am good. I deserve good things. I am not receiving good things. Something must be wrong. Whos going to fix it? We also know the age-old expression: Who ever said life was fair? Jesus knew this expression when he offered his parable in todays Gospel reading. Christian stewards acknowledge, with humility, that they receive good things from the Lord in abundance; even if these gifts are not the ones they think they need when they need them. Consider which servants you identify with most in the Gospel reading, the ones who demand fairness, or that final servant who, seemingly, deserves the least.

Tips for Giving

We all want to give back a faithful and generous share of our gifts to God. We know that giving back to God is just a small way to show our gratitude for all that God has given to us. We know that it feels good to be generous. Yet sometimes it is difficult to move from knowing to doing. Here are a few tips that will help you give in a way that will fill you with joy and satisfaction. Know what percentage of your income you are giving to God. Consider whether you can increase this number. Ideally, Catholics give 5% to their parish and 5% to all other charities. Once you determine what your weekly giving should be, make that the first check which you write each time you sit down to pay bills. Thanks you.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I want to thank you for your prayers and your warm welcome. It is a blessing to be your new bishop. As you may know, there are seven counties in the Diocese of Joliet, and one way to reach everyone is through Christ is our Hope, the magazine that is sent to every registered parishioner in the diocese. Thank you for making this possible. I hope you have enjoyed reading the magazine and have shared it. One of the goals of Christ is our Hope is to inspire and educate people about Christ and to share news and information about our faith. All the parishes in the diocese help make this vital ministry possible, along with your personal support. The magazine is one way the diocese tries to help people grow in faith. In the past year, Christ is our Hope has done this through stories ranging from the recently concluded Year of the Eucharist to the newly revised Roman Missal to the personal faith journeys of Catholics striving to open their hearts to Christ. To continue to make this possible, I need your help. Please pray about your decision to support the magazine. On September 24-25, you will have an opportunity to make a donation during the Christ is our Hope Magazine Collection. You can mail your gift with the coupon provided or drop the coupon and a check into the collection basket at your local parish. By making a donation of $35 you help ensure that the magazine continues to reach more than 170,000 households across the diocese. Please visit the diocesan website, http://www.dioceseofjoliet.org/christisourhope/donate.asp, for additional information. Regardless of whether you donate or not, your prayers for the magazines success and our diocesan-wide evangelization efforts are also greatly appreciated. Thank you for your generosity. A Prayer for Family Commitment

Dear God our Father, you have called all Christian families to be a sign of your love to the world. Help us to be generous with the gifts of life and love that you have showered on our family. May we share them so that our homes become true signs of unitive and fruitful love. Let us never forget to thank you each day for all that sustains us and to look to Christ, who comes to us in the events of family life, in the sacraments of the Church, and in service to the poor. In all of this, our family becomes a living expression of your Church, a hallowed home of life and love. By the power of the Holy Spirit, may all of usspouses, parents, and childrenshare, as members of his Body, in Jesus mission to build a civilization of love. Father, we ask this in Jesus name in union with the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The cooperation of a great many people is needed if the individuals and communities are to grow to full maturity in faith through prayer and the celebration of the sacraments, through study, and through their way of living. Those who devote themselves to the ministry of catechesis play a vital role in the Churchs Pastoral activity. Enlightened by Gods Word and the teaching of the Church, and inspired by their own life of prayer and witness, catechists lead others to know the living Jesus Christ through word and deed. Through the ministry of catechesis, catechists provide a process of initiation and formation for those in their care, introducing them to the truths of faith, which they themselves have learned, lived and celebrated. Today we celebrate those who teach and share their faith as Catechists and Assistants. We also celebrate parents, grandparent and guardians as they are the first teachers of the faith; the first catechists. Please keep in prayer these faith filled people who assist in our program:

MonaLisa Dourado, Evelyn Toth, Magda Ahern, Christi Goba, Lucy Penas, Karen Frega, Amar Patel, Ellen Sweeney, Kim Campbell, Kim Krause, Mary Klasen, Jim Krupka, George Zelazny, Patti Kring, Rose Isaily, Peggy Riccardo, Amy Ringhoffer, Sue Oliveri, June Sanders, Nancy Tonkinson, Diane Tonkinson, Matt Novak, Sandie Novak, Lauren Coats, Megan McNamara, Patti Wojdyla, Rose Kessling, Jack Maggiore, Jan Benshoof. Blessings and thanks to all those who help our Children!
