Lectures and laboratory work, group work, problem-solving exercises and hospital visits combine to provide an integrated learning experience. Respected Academic Faculty Our faculty members bring rich experience and preparation to the classroom. Many are internationally known researchers at the forefront of drug discovery, cancer medicines, nanotechnology, neuroscience and other areas; all are authors and experts in their field of study. Their dedication and accessibility is an integral part of the Schools culture of collegiality and camaraderie. Unrivalled Location in Central London Our main building is at Brunswick Square, in the heart of the University of Londons main campus in Bloomsbury, a lively student area and home to one of the largest concentrations of universities, libraries and scientific organisations in the world. Postgraduate Research

PhD and MPhil The Schools research interests are divided into four areas and span a huge range of fields, including cancer chemotherapeutics, cancer drug discovery, clinical pharmacy, drug delivery, medicinal chemistry, molecular neuroscience, neuropharmacology, paediatric medicines, pharmaceutical analysis, pharmaceutical technology and materials science. Drug Discovery The Schools drug discovery activities focus on three complementary areas: Cancer medicines Antimicrobials (especially against MRSA infections) Natural products as a source of novel compounds against a range of human diseases Formulation Sciences Research focuses on the sciences and technologies used to develop and understand the final dosage form of medicines. We work on the major routes of administration (oral, parenteral, pulmonary, mucosal and dermal), and pharmaceutical materials characterisation and processing. Other activities include the formulation of oligonucleotide and proteinbased medicines, and multicomponent formulations that need pharmaceutical engineering from the nano to the micro-scale.

Neurosciences The Schools research in the neurosciences covers nervous system regulation and function in health and disease, with a focus on synaptic function and neuronal circuitry. We use a wide range of technical and theoretical approaches to study normal brain function, uncover the fundamental causes of neurological and psychiatric diseases, and identify novel therapeutic targets. Research activity is grouped into four major themes: Neocortical and hippocampal microcircuitry Presynaptic control of neurotransmitter release Postsynaptic receptor identification and clustering mechanisms Genetic and neurochemical basis of neurological disease Medicines Use and Health Researchers examine ways to translate the potential benefits of medicines into positive health outcomes by understanding and shaping the factors that influence their optimal use. Optimal health outcomes are related to the correct use of medicines which can be compromised by safety and behavioural issues. We seek to understand how individuals and organizations use medicines and then develop interventions to optimise their safety and efficacy. We use and develop theories to understand patients experiences of medicines, the causes of harm and the choices made by patients and prescribers.
Duration: 3 years full-time Deadlines: Rolling admissions Entry requirements: Language: IELTS 6.5 (6.5 in each skill area) / TOEFL 92 (iBT) or 237 (CBT) Academic: A first or upper second class honours degree or its equivalent
