NON MOTOR

ALL RISKS - This policy provides cover for loss of or damage to the property insured by Fire, Theft or any Accidental means not excluded by the Policy. - It is suitable for portable items like cameras, laptops, personal computers, videos and other fragile electronic items, personal items, baggage etc. - Due to the mobile nature of most items, cover is not restricted to the premises. Policy will usually have the territorial scope as Kenya or Worldwide in respect to items such as laptops and cameras.

The main policy exclusions include:

Political Risks, Terrorism Property damaged by its undergoing any process involving the application of heat or the actual process of dyeing, cleaning, repair or renovation. Electrical or mechanical breakdown or faulty manipulation. Wear, tear, gradual deterioration, vermin, inherent vice, rust or atmospheric conditions. Losses falling within the policy excess Theft from motor vehicles unless the property is contained at the time of loss in locked boot or locked locker forming an integral part of the vehicle. Breakage of articles of a brittle nature unless such damage is caused by fire or theft. Damage to or scratching of lenses unless the apparatus is damaged at the same time. Back to the Top

BONDS - This are guarantees that may from time to time be required by other parties to be executed by an insurance company to certify that the insured will observe or maintain a certain state of affairs or will perform a certain task to the required standard or as per an agreed contract.

The bonds will include:

Customs Bonds Immigrations/Security Bonds Performance /Contractors Bonds

Tender /bid bonds Financial Guarantee Bond

- Upon executing such a bond as requested, LOK acts as the guarantor, and is bound to pay a defined amount of money should the person / party so guaranteed, fail to meet the terms and conditions of the contract with the third party. - Terms and Conditions apply for the execution of bonds. BURGLARY / THEFT - The Burglary policy compensates for the insureds property stolen from their business premises. There must be a forcible entry into or exit from the premises for this policy to offer compensation, meaning that the premises must be broken into or someone forcefully finding their way out. - Policy will also cover the costs of repairing damages to the premises in the course of the theft. Cover may also be extended to include riot & strike and any theft following a hold up.

The main policy exclusions include: - Money and Securities which can be subject of a Money Policy which gives wider cover than a Theft Policy. - Theft by family members or employees. - Theft following fire or explosion. FIRE CONSEQUENTIAL LOSS - The Consequential loss or loss of profits policy generally takes over from where the fire policy leaves off. If a fire loss occurs it may well be a long while before the insured is fully back into operation. During such a period, the insured's earning power is diminished or drops. On the other hand, certain expenses would continue to be incurred whilst the premises are being rebuilt. Such costs would include rents, rates, wages of skilled staff or salaries of permanents staff and many other expenses. - These standing charges together with estimated net profit of the undertaking comprise the sum insured on gross profit, a reduction of which as a result of an insureds perils, constitutes a claim under the consequential loss policy. The policy would also cover the expenses incurred in

adopting emergency and temporary accommodation, hiring second hand equipment etc in order to diminish the loss. This is known as increased cost of working. - As this policy is consequent upon the happening of a fire, the policy exclusions are similar to those under the fire policy. Back to the Top

CONTRACTORS ALL RISKS An ALL RISKS cover available to contractors that will offer protection destruction or damage to;

The contract works Contractors plant & machinery at the site Materials on site

- Scope of cover will include fire, burglary, floods, earthquake and unforeseen and accidental damage to the property insured. A limited amount will also be available for removal of any debris from a site after such damage/destruction. - In addition, the policy will extend to cover the contractors liability to members of the public (third parties), for death, injuries or damage to their property arising out of the contractors negligence. - Cover extends for the period of the contract plus the "maintenance period" (during which the contractors may be responsible for defects arising.

The main exclusions include: - War and kindred risks - Nuclear risks - Wilful negligence on the part of Insured - Cessation of work - Consequential Loss - Faulty design and defective material (restricted to the actual material involved and not to the whole property) - Wear and tear - Mechanical breakdown of construction plant - Vehicles licensed for road use. - Loss or damage to documents relating to the contract, including cash and cheques. - Loss caused by vibration or weakening of support Liability consequent upon :

Injury to employees of the Insured Loss of property in the care, custody or control of the Insured Any agreement made by the Insured unless liability would also have been attached in the absence of such agreement. Back to the Top

DOMESTIC PACKAGE - This is a package cover designed specially for your residence. It is arranged to cater for almost everything you have worked hard for in your household and is insured under the following headings;

Section A (Buildings): These are the residential buildings where the Insured is an owner as well as the occupant of the building.

Section B (Contents): The contents of the residence usually means household goods and personal effects of every description belonging to, or being the responsibility of, the insured or members of his family permanently residing with him or resident domestic servants; whilst contained in the dwelling or in domestic outbuildings and garages specifically mentioned. Section C (All Risks): Under this section, property is insured against loss or damage by any accident or misfortune, subject to the policy exclusions. Such property includes:- Specified jewellery, watches, gold and silver articles, Binoculars and Photographic equipment for private use, unspecified luggage, clothing and personal effects. Limit any one item Kshs. 5,000 for unspecified items.

Section D (Domestic Servants): Under this section, the insured may insure his domestic servants for liability for death or injury arising in the course of employment and this is governed by the Work Injury Benefits Act.

Section E (Owner's Liability): This section covers the insureds legal liability as the owner of a building for death, injury or property damage to third parties

Section F (Occupier's Personal Liability): This section covers the insureds liability as the occupier of a building for death, injury or property damage to third parties

Scope of cover;

Fire Theft Accidental damage Liability to third parties Occupational accidents (death or illness to the servants as per the Workmens Compensation Act, including your liability as an employer at common law for acts of negligence)

Cover can be arranged on buildings only, contents only or for both buildings and contents. The main policy exclusions include:

ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT - This cover is suitable for electronic items usually to be found in an office environment or in hospitals etc, electronic items that are not to be found in heavy industrial set ups. These will include computers, medical equipments (X-rays, radiology, weighing scales etc), microscopes, PABX and other equipments. - The policy protects the insured equipment against any unforeseen and sudden physical loss of or damage. Causes of the loss will include;

Accidental damage

Fire Theft (an extension on the policy) Internal damage due to short circuiting etc

- In case of computers, the policy can also be extended to include costs of replacing lost or damaged external data media and costs of reproducing lost data. Any increased costs of working as a result of the loss or damage can also be recovered under the policy. - The policy will operate when the insured items are at work or at rest, or being dismantled for the purpose of cleaning, overhauling or being shifted within the premises, or in the course of the functions themselves. Usually a premises cover but can be extended to cover temporary transits away from the premises. The main exclusions are:

Loss or damage caused by any faults or defects existing at the time of commencement of the policy within the knowledge of the insured or his representatives. Any costs incurred in connection with the maintenance of the insured items. Loss or damage caused by the failure or interruption of any gas water or electricity service or supply. Any costs incurred in connection with the elimination of functional failures, unless such failures are caused by an indefinable loss of or damage to the insured items. Loss or damage for which the manufacturer or supplier of the insured items is responsible either by law or under contract ( losses covered by warranty) Terrorism risks Political risks. EMPLOYERS LIABILITY - This policy offers protection to employers for their legal liability (under Common Law), for damages and claimants costs and expenses of lawsuits filed by an employee. The Liability would arise if an employee in the insureds immediate service dies or is injured out of or in the course of their work, through any perceived negligence on the employers part.

- The policy also reimburses the insured the expenses they may incur in the course of defending any such action/lawsuit.

- It is important to note that the employee reserves the right to sue the employer for negligence despite having been compensated under the Work Injury Benefits (Act) or a Group Personal Accident policies for a work related injury or accident. This policy is therefore activated only after a legal claim has been intimated against the Insured.

Cover is usually arranged on the basis of the employees earnings. The main policy exclusions include:

Claims arising due to war and associated perils Liability attaching by virtue of agreement Claims for injury through wilful act or caused by goods supplies or remedial treatment Liability to employees of contractors Political and Terrorism risks Back to the Top

FIDELITY GUARANTEE - Fidelity Guarantee is a cover that offers protection against loss of money or goods from business premises, through dishonest/fraudulent acts of employee. Cover can be arranged for named positions or on all employees of the insured. This is a very important cover, as most insurance policies exclude theft by employees/servants.

- Cover is provided for losses which occur during the currency of the policy and which are discovered within six months of dismissal or retirement of the employee or expiry of the policy whichever occurs first. The main policy exclusions include:

FIRE & PERILS

- A Fire policy (basic cover) will provide cover for damage or destruction to insured property by Fire, lightning or explosion of domestic appliances. The Fire & perils is an extension of the basic cover and will extend to include the following additional covers:

Riot & Strike Malicious damage Explosion Special Perils (water perils of flood, blocked drains etc) Earthquake Bush Fire etc.

Important information required in assessing a fire risk will include:

The value of property (Buildings, contents like furniture, stocks etc) The nature of business / occupancy of the building The nature of construction. Location of the premises State of housekeeping Fire Fighting appliances available.

- We recommended our clients obtain a professional valuation of properties such as buildings, plant & or machinery to ensure that they are adequately covered. Other items that can be insured under this policy include;

Loss of rent following a fire Loss of contents of underground tanks following an earthquake and earthquake cover for the swimming pool.

The main policy exclusions include:

GLASS

- The cover provides compensation for fixed glass (plate glass) broken as at the insureds premises as a result of an insured perils. Insured perils that will normally cause the damage will include amongst other things;

Fire Malicious damage Riot & Strike Impact by vehicles, animals etc

Can also be extended to replacement of letterings, decorations, costs of fixing back and neon. The main exclusions include:

Damage to frames or framework or the cost of carpentry or metal work necessary to replace the broken glass. Cost of removal or replacement of fittings or fixtures or the boarding up of broken windows or doors. Breakage or damage to frames or framework of any description Breakage due to dilapidation of frames or framework Glass other than plate or sheet glass unless specifically insured. GOLFERS INSURANCE This policy covers amateur golfers against the following contingencies happening on any golf course or Club premises.

Loss of or damage to golfing equipment Personal injury by accident resulting in Death; loss limbs or eyes and temporary total disablement (limited to 26 weeks) Indemnity in respect of claims by the public (caddies or ball boys included) for personal injury and damage Loss or damage to personal effects (other than golfing equipment and valuables) Out of pocket expense included as a result of the insured holding out in one Stroke whilst playing in a competition or friendly game. GOODS IN TRANSIT

- The Goods in Transit policy offers protection against loss, destruction, or damage to goods whilst they are in transit - from the time of leaving the insureds premises to final delivery. The policy also protects the insured from liability during loading and unloading of the goods, and temporary housing in the course of transit.

- The cover is available for individuals or companies transporting goods.

The main policy exclusions are:


Cash or precious metals or documents Delay Deterioration or depreciation unless caused by fire or theft or as a result of a collision or overturning of the conveying vehicle. Theft by the Insured or his employees or employees of Sub-Contractor. War risks or riot and civil commotion. Back to the Top

GROUP PERSONAL ACCIDENT - This is an employee benefit cover and offers compensation for death or bodily injuries resulting from an accident. In the event the insured should become permanently disabled from as a result of an accident, a scale of benefits relative to the extent of disability is payable, whilst in the event of death the maximum benefit under the policy will be paid out to the beneficiaries.

Other benefits available under the policy will include; - Medical expenses following an accident. - Temporary disability cover, where the policy pays for loss of earnings to employees as a result of their incapacity (or a compensation to the employer for continued pay to an employee who is temporarily incapacitated). - Cover can be arranged on a multiple of earnings e.g 3, 4 or 5 years earnings or on a capital (lump sum) basis e.g. 1, 2, 5 or 10million. INDUSTRIAL ALL RISKS - This is a combination policy and basically incorporates fire, fire consequential loss, theft and accidental damage perils. With this policy, there will be no need of taking out Fire and Fire Consequential Loss Policies as well as Burglary and All Risks. This policy is however subject to a higher deductible than the individual policies.

The policy is issued under two sections and provides indemnity against all those risks not excluded by the policy. a) Section A - Material Damage - In the event of accidental physical loss of or damage to the property specified not occasioned by or happening through any excluded cause the insurer will pay to the Insured the value of the said property at the time of the happening of the loss or the amount of such damage or at their option repair or replace such property. The property to be covered under this policy should include:

Buildings Furniture, Fixtures and Fittings Office contents Plant and Machinery

The sums insured should reflect the current replacement or market values of the property less a deduction for wear and tear/ depreciation (if any). The main exclusions include:

Property in transit other than within the premises specified ; Property in course of construction or erection or testing; Cash, Cheques, Postal notes, money orders, stamps promissory notes, bills of exchange, jewellery, precious stones, furs, precious metals or bullion, curiosities or works of art other than as provided under All Other Contents extensions; Motor and other mechanically or electrically propelled vehicles and accessories Machinery if directly attributable to mechanical breakdown or derangement; Ionising radiations or contaminations by radioactivity from any nuclear fuel or from any nuclear waste from the combustion of nuclear fuel. Nuclear weapons material. War, invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities or warlike operations; Terrorism Political Risks Unexplained disappearance, shortage revealed at any stocktaking, shortages due to clerical or accounting error, shortages in the supply of delivery of materials;

Infidelity or dishonesty on the part of the Insured or any of his employees; Theft except from a building and then only if there is violence to persons or threat of violence or forcible and violent entry to or exit from such buildings; Wear and tear, deterioration, rust or corrosion, erosion, mould, wet or dry rot, animals, birds, vermin, insects and larvae; Inherent or latent defect, slowly developing deformation or distortion of any building, plant or machinery; Delay or loss of market or any other consequential or indirect loss or interruption of business; Defects in materials or workmanship;

b) Business Interruption (Consequential Loss) - This section covers loss consequent upon the happening of a peril covered under section A of the policy. Covered is provided under the following headings:

The gross profit The wages Indemnity period Increase Cost of working (optional)

- The indemnity period is the period beginning with the occurrence of the damage and ending not later than the maximum period thereafter during which the results of the business shall be affected in consequence of the damage. Back to the Top

MACHINERY BREAK-DOWN - This policy protects the machinery insured against any unforeseen and sudden physical loss of or damage. Causes of the loss will include:

Bad workmanship Faulty design of the machine Shortage of water in boilers Short circuiting etc

- This policy is appropriate for heavy machinery that is prone to breakdown such as boilers, lifts, Generators, Cinema Equipment, Refrigeration Equipment and Laundry Equipment.

- Costs of airfreight and increased costs incurred as result of such damage can also be covered and recovered under the policy. - The sum insured should be equal to the cost of replacement of the insured machinery and plant by new machinery of the same specifications and same capacity including all freight costs to site, erection costs and customs duties and other dues.

The main exclusions include: 1. Corrosion, erosion, wasting or wearing of any part of machinery caused by ordinary use of working and any other continuos chemical or atmospheric influence, undue deposits of rust., mud, boiler scale or other deposits 2. Breakdown caused by test, intentional overloading or experiments involving the imposition of abnormal conditions 3. Any faults or defects existing at the time of commencement of the present insurance within the knowledge of the Insured or its management 4. Loss or damage for which the manufacturer or supplier of the property is responsible either by law or under contractual obligations 5. Consequential loss, damage or liability of any nature 6. War, invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities or war-like operations 7. Terrorism and Political risks. Back to the Top

MACHINERY LOSS OF PROFITS - The loss of profits policy generally takes over from where the machinery breakdown policy leaves off. If a machinery loss occurs it may well be a long while before the insured is fully back into operation. During such a period, the insured's earning power is diminished or drops. This is known as increased cost of working. - As this policy is consequent upon breakdown of machinery, the policy exclusions are similar to those under the machinery breakdown policy. MONEY - The Money policy covers loss of cash under any of the following circumstances:

Loss of money at your premises during business hours, or in specified safes or strong rooms. Loss of money in transit Loss of money in the custody of an authorized employee Loss of, or damage to safes or strong rooms insured in the process of a theft or an attempt thereat

- Additional extensions to the cover available include;


Riots & Strike Personal Accident / Assault Loss of keys (replacement)

The main Policy exclusions include:

Loss from fraud and dishonesty of the Insured's employees not discovered within three days. This is limited to Kshs. 2,000/= as there is a more specific policy that covers dishonesty of employees. Loss due to clerical or accounting errors. Loss of money left in an unattended room is not covered unless it is in a locked safe or cupboard or desk from which the key has been removed. PERSONAL ACCIDENT - The Personal accident cover provides compensation to the insured for physical and visible body injury caused in an accident. It goes on further to cover individuals if the injury as a sole cause results in death or disablement. The main policy exclusions are payment for bodily injury:

Sustained while the insured person is under the influence of intoxicants or drugs or suffering from venereal disease or insanity. Consequent upon:-

an Insured persons wilful exposure to peril (except in an attempt to save human life) or criminal act winter sports rock climbing mountaineering (which requires the use of ropes or guides) pot-holing skin-diving parachuting Association football or Rugby football ice hockey. flying or air travel of any kind other that as a fare paying passenger in an aircraft operated by a recognised airline on a regular scheduled air transport service or in a fully licensed standard type of aircraft (other than a single engine aircraft) operated by air charter company over an established air route any physical defect or infirmity of an Insured Person war invasion act of foreign enemy hostilities Back to the Top

PROFESSIONAL INDEMNITY - This policy protects professionals for their legal liability for any acts of negligence they may commit in the course their duty. You do not have to be wrong to be sued, the policy will provide for the costs of defending any action brought against the insured in their professional capacity. Scope of cover;

court judgments/awards defense costs fees and expenses loss of documents

Cover is available for, among others;


Auditors/Accountants/Tax-Advisors/Actuaries Advocates/Notaries Civil and Contractual Engineers Quantity Surveyors/Land Surveyors Valuers / Property Consultants Architects.

- The insured will choose a limit of cover in line with the nature of projects/contracts that they normally undertake or the size of the pension scheme funds that they manage. Back to the Top

PUBLIC LIABILITY - The Public Liability protects an insured person or organization against their legal liability to members of the public (third parties) arising from;

Death or bodily injury to third parties Loss of or damage to third party property

- Arising out of and in the course of the insureds normal business within the premises or a defined geographical location. The policy will also cover the costs of defending any suit brought against the insured (defense costs), in addition to any award that may be made against the insured by a court of law. - The insured chooses a limit of cover, which in their opinion is adequate to protect themselves against any lawsuits. In determining this limit, consideration will be made by the insured of the nature of their operations/business, type and profile of their usual guests/customers and the degree of hazard/exposure posed by their premises/operations to third parties. - The policy can also be extended to include products liability for manufacturing concerns. In all circumstances, negligence on the part of the insured must be proved before the policy can pay any award.

The main exclusions include:

Death of or injury to any member of the Insured's family or his employees. Damage to property belonging to the Insured or his family or held in trust by him or his employees or sub-contractor. Liability arising out of fire and explosion. Liability arising due to war, riot, strike and invasion, radioactivity, nuclear weapons etc. Damage to property of any description due to manufacture, construction, alteration, repair or treatment of such property by the insured or any person acting on his behalf. This excludes liability for defective workmanship. Other exclusions will largely depend upon the nature of the Insured's occupation. Back to the Top

WORK INJURY BENEFITS (WIBA) - Cover is provided in respect of the Insureds Liability against any accidental death or bodily injury to employees arising out of and in the course of their employment as per the Work Injury Benefit Act 2007 (WIBA) The benefits provided under the policy are: Death - compensation based on 96 months earnings subject to minimum and maximum amounts stated under the Act

Permanent Total Disablement - compensation based on ninety-six months earnings subject to minimum and maximum amounts under the Act.

Temporary Total/Partial Disablement an employee who suffers Temporary Total Disablement that incapacitates him or her for three or more days is entitled to receive a periodical payment equivalent to their earnings, subject to a maximum of 12 months earnings.

Medical Expenses - any expenses reasonably incurred by an employee as a result of an Occupational accident. Such expenses to include dental, hospital treatment, surgical dressings, drugs, skilled nursing services, traveling and subsistence as well as supply, maintenance and replacement of artificial limbs, crutches and others. Currently the limit is Kshs. 100,000

Funeral Expenses payment of reasonable funeral expenses currently set by the Act at Kshs. 30,000.
