Using Microsoft Excel to Graph INVOS System Data Files

Model 5100C, Software Versions 30.05.05/40.06.06, 30.05.05b/40.06.06b, 30.06.06/40.07.07 and 30.07.07/40.08.08 or greater Model 5100B, Software Versions 20.13.13 and 20.14.14 or greater

These instructions provide information for generating graphs of data files created by the INVOS System, Models 5100C and 5100B. Data files for each case can be created by using the Somanetics USB Flash Drive with the INVOS 5100C System and a Somanetics Disk Drive with the INVOS 5100B System. This requires: A computer using Microsoft Windows 95 or higher, Microsoft Excel 97 or higher, basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel For INVOS System Model 5100C, Software Versions 30.05.05/40.06.06, 30.05.05b/40.06.06b, 30.06.06/40.07.07 and 30.07.07/40.08.08, INVOS System Model 5100B, Software Versions 20.13.13 and 20.14.14, graphing macro file 2-4Chan5100Crev_3_20.xls Instructions for set-up and using the USB Flash Drive (5100C) and Disk Drive (5100B) can be found in the Operations Manual. Using the USB Flash Drive and Disk Drive, data files can be transferred to a personal computer. PREPARING FOR FIRST USE Activate the macro [initial setup] by opening Microsoft Excel. Select Tools from the task bar. From the drop down menu, select Macro then Security. Within the Security box that opens, in the Security Level tab, choose Medium, and then select OK. Close Microsoft Excel. Install macro [initial setup] for creating a chart by copying the graphing macro file 2-4Chan5100Crev_3_20.xls onto the desktop of the personal computer you will be using or into an appropriate folder. Data File Names Data files created by the INVOS monitor are automatically named by the software using the date (YYMMDD) followed by a letter indicating the type of recording (N = Normal, C = Control, I = Intervention) and a file extension consisting of a letter (H = History, or R = Real-time) and a sequence number. For example, a CASE HISTORY file recorded on September 13, 2008 in Normal mode would have a filename of 080913N.H1. If two or more cases were done in a single day with one monitor, in the same mode, the only difference between the file names would be the sequence number (the last digit). The files themselves will always contain date and time information for every rSO2 data point recorded. Up to 24 hours of data may be stored per case file. When data storage exceeds 24 hours or midnight is reached, a new case file will be started. Note: Multiple monitors used on the same day and in the same mode could create identical file names. Renaming files with a different format will cause the macro to not recognize the data file, so graphing and macros must be run before renaming. GRAPHING FILES To graph a data file, insert the USB Flash Drive or Floppy Disk with the data file into the computers USB Port or floppy drive. Double click the icon for 2-4Chan5100Crev_3_20.xls Select ENABLE MACROS. If a PASSWORD box opens, select Read Only. Note: If you re-open a processed file that has been saved in Excel format, select DISABLE MACROS for reprinting or editing. In the Open file dialogue box, locate the USB Flash Drive and double click the data file you intend to graph. When the Patient box opens, enter HIPAA-compliant patient information. Then select OK or press Enter on the keyboard. Do not use the patients name. In the Save As box, locate the appropriate folder where you are saving these files. Select Save or press Enter on the keyboard. Note: If you are saving the file back onto the original USB Flash Drive or Floppy Disk, it is not necessary to rename the file. To save onto the USB Flash Drive or Floppy Disk, select Enter on the keyboard. If there is a disk full error message, select End on the keyboard. The file has not been saved and must be saved elsewhere. After the data file is processed, the graph will appear. You may now print the graph and/or close the file. For additional editing of the graph, follow the spreadsheet software supplier's directions to proceed.
