Ohio County Local Coordinating Committee Citizens for a Drug Free Community September 12, 2011- Heritage Hall

Attendees: Deborah Thomason, Janie Eldridge, Karen Ernst, Jascia Robinson, Sarah Slayback, Shannon
Franklin, Debbie Marsh-Niccum, Regina Crouch and Jennifer Brittain, Kim Linkel, Deb Ranz and Carrie Hudepohl. Deborah Thomason called the meeting to order. Introductions were made.

Youth Report
Shannon Franklin from Purdue Extension is going to be in the 4th grade classes presenting Just be Healthy and Fit Karen Ernst stated that Aaron Negangard will be coming to the Middle School and High School again this year, talking about underage drinking, drugs, bullying, sexting and consequences.

Regional Report
Kim Linkel reported that the next meeting in Indianapolis regarding the change in ICJI is September 28th, Debbie Thomason will be in Indianapolis for a different meeting and stated that she will try to get there. Three additional Lifestyle Risk Reduction trainings are going to be held one in Versailles Sept. 30th, and in Dearborn County at the Lawrenceburg firehouse on October14th and November 18th; all are at no cost unless you sign up and do not show up.

Old Business Janie Eldridge and Debbie Thomason will work on the Comprehensive Community Plan this month

which will need approved at our next meeting in October. Mr. Majewski is okay with the activities that we are doing for the Drug Free Week. Janie Eldridge reported on the Job Skills Training Program that they are had at Denver Siekman Park. Ten children attended, one is still helping at the Park. During the program they had Dress for Success and Resume Writing.

New Business Debbie Thomason Reported on the GED program that they are having at the Ohio County Education Center for a year, we are in the process of trying to keep it at the center. Another 6 wk. course is starting in October. Shannon Franklin reported on a program called the Benefit Bank which is for low and moderate income families to help them with taxes, employment etc. She would like help brining this service into the area. The group mention to her to put on a presentation to the Rotary Club. Karen Ernst talked about an informational breakfast presenting Monte Stiles, a Retired Federal Drug Prosecutor from Idaho that was coming to Hollywood Casino Ballroom on Thursday, October 27th from 8:30 to 10:30am. He will be addressing the push to have Medical Marijuana Legalized. Announcements New grants applications will be handed out next month and due in November.
