SHORT COURSES
HEAVY VEHICLE PLANT OPERATIONS
From 1 October 2011, operators in NSW no longer need a WorkCover licensing for these machines: Front end Loader (LL) Front end loader/backhoe (LB) Skid steer (LS) Excavator (LE) WHAT THIS MEANS - Employers (or controllers of the plant) must ensure that operators have received adequate information and training, and/or are supervised, so that any risks to health and safety are minimised. The controller of the loadshifting machine must ensure that any hazards are identified, assessed and controlled, and that others are advised of the hazards and control measures. The employer (or controller) must also ensure the operator is competent to do their job safely. To determine an operators competency, appropriate training or experience could include that they: hold a previous certificate of competency issued by a regulator, such as WorkCover; hold a statement of attainment or other nationally recognised qualification for the type of plant they will be operating; have completed training at an industry training school, or hold an industry competency card for the relevant item of plant; have been trained on-the-job by an experienced and competent person; demonstrate experience and competency, which can be verified by a previous employer. The employer (or controller) must also assess that an operators current level of competency is appropriate for the complexity of the work and the conditions of the worksite. HOW TAFE CAN HELP YOU - we will continue to provide the training and assessment in these loadshifting machines through our Plant Operator course. Our course will provide operators with operational knowledge, maintenance and health and safety work related practices in training and assessment for Forklift (classified as High Risk), and the opportunity in two of the following machines: * Conduct wheeled front end loader operations - RIIMPO321A * Conduct excavator operations - RIIMPO320A * Conduct backhoe/loader operations - RIIMPO319A * Conduct skid steer loader operations - RIIMPO318A Participants may be able to choose to do either Grader or Bulldozer instead of the above machines. Assessment Outcomes: Each assessment involves theory and practical elements. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Participants MUST BE 18 YEARS OLD to participate in this course. For WorkCover licensing in Forklift an additional fee of $65.00 is payable when lodging you application. It is extremely important that participants provide documents of identity that add up to 100 points on the day of assessment. These documents should be the same documents that you will provide to the Australia Post Customer Service Officer as evidence of identity when you lodge your application. Within these documents you must be able to show your photo, date of birth, signature and current address. The documents must be original documents. Certified copies will not be accepted. The Assessor will verify your identity, date of birth, signature and current address prior to commencing the assessment. The Assessor will refuse to conduct your assessment if you have failed to provide adequate evidence of identity. The Assessor will record your identity details on the CA1 Form and then hand the documents straight back to you. Full details on document types and their point value are available. If the participant requires a VERBAL Assessment, this must be specified at the time of registration. Verbal assessments will incur an additional hourly rate charge.
