Street Cambridge, MA 02141 To Whom It May Concern: I am writing to express my interest in the Africa Analyst position at Pyramid Research. I learned of this opportunity through Brown-to-Brown, a job digest circulated to members of the Brown University community. As the child of South-African ex-patriots with numerous visits to Africa under my belt, I became extremely excited by the possibility of applying Pyramids unique analytical approach to gain a better understanding of the telecom industry within Africa. Working with Pyramid, I am confident that I could bring much to the firm and take advantage of its many great opportunities for professional growth. I possess several qualities that ideally suit me for a position at Pyramid. As a research assistant at the University of Chicago, I am in charge of carrying out the analytical work on a project to understand the improvement of workers at an automotive assembly plant. To understand this improvement, I use econometric models that require a high level of analytical and quantitative skill to conceptualize and implement correctly. The process involves daily coding using statistical software packages that are more sophisticated than MS Excel. In addition, there are often multiple deadlines to keep as I work for three different professors with varying, busy schedules. Thus, I am comfortable operating in a fast-paced work environment. As a teaching assistant for the Principles of Economics course at Brown, I honed my oral presentation skills by learning how to frame information clearly and effectively. I had a similar experience making cold canvas calls in Spanish during my internship in Madrid, as I only had a limited time to make myself understood. At Brown I also took graduate courses in philosophy. The papers assigned in these classes demanded a clear, analytical style of writing. I received high marks for my work on these papers, even among highly trained graduate philosophy students. I also excel working as part of a team. At Brown I participated in numerous theatre/performance activities, which involved a great deal of collaborative work with other talented individuals in order to bring creative projects to fruition. I have no doubt these experiences would serve me well at Pyramid. It is my hope that my qualifications and interest will grant me an interview with Pyramid. I am planning a trip to Boston beginning on September 17th for another job interview, but I would be happy to accommodate a visit to Pyramids office into my schedule. I have references from the University of Chicago, Northwestern, and Brown available upon request. Please do not hesitate to contact me either by phone or by email. Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to speaking with you soon. Sincerely, David Greis
