MOD. LEV. 5.3 SOFTWARE FOR ETHOS D WITH TERMINAL 20

Main features:

1. Possibility to store up to 30 programs.


2. Each program includes 10 Steps.
3. Possibility to select Time, Microwave Power, Pressure, internal Temperature,
external Temperature for each step.
4. Possibility to create control ramps for Pressure, internal Temperature, external
temperature.
5. Possibility to regulate and maintain pressure, internal Temperature, external
temperature once the preset values are reached through control of microwave
power emission.

HOW TO STORE A PROGRAM


(SOFTWARE 5.3)

Example of program storing:

PROGRAM 1

1st step Power: 250W Time: 5 minutes


Pressure: 3 bar T int. max. 150°C T ext. max 70°C

2nd step Power: 400W Time: 5 minutes


Pressure: 6 bar T int. max. 180°C T ext. max. 80°C

3rd step Power: 500W Time: 4 minutes


Pressure: 10 bar T int. max. 210°C T. ext. max. 80°C

Ventilation Time : 1 minute

Turn ON the main switch of the ETHOS D placed on the front panel.
The display on the control panel will alternatively show:

After 4-5 seconds the display will show:

Press “F2” key; the display will show:

Press “F3” to confirm. The display will show:

Introduce the desired time (e.g. 5 minutes) for the First Step (1/1) by pressing the 0,0,0,
and 5 keys. The display will show:

Press “F3” to confirm. The display will show:

It is now possible to set the required power for the first digestion step. Press the keys “2”
and then “5”; the display will show:

Confirm by pushing the “F3” key; the display will now request the values for pressure,
internal Temperature and external Temperature.

ATTENTION:
The values for P, T1 and T2 shall be set only in case the ETHOS D unit has installed
wither one of the following 3 Control kits and respectively
P= P/N 86303 Automatic Press Control APC55
Ti= P/N 050210 Automatic Temperature Control ATC 400CE
Te= P/N 33684 Infrared Temperature Control IR-TC 500
If not, press F3 to proceed. If no kit is installed, press F3 for three times.

Pressure _ b 1/1

Press the 3 key (3 bar). Press F3 to enter. The display will show:

Press the keys 1,5, and 0 (150°C). Press F3 to enter; now the display will show:

Press the keys 7 and 0 (70°C). press F3 to enter.

The display will now show the Second Step of Program no. 1:

Set the desired time of microwave power emission for the Second Step: digit 0,0,0,5
(5minutes) and press F3 to enter.

Now set the power for the Second Step: digit 4, and 0 (400 W). Press F3 to enter.

Press F3 to enter.
The display will now show:

Introduce the desired pressure digitising 6:

Press F3 to enter. The display will now show:

Digit 1,8,0 (180°C):

Press F3 to enter. The display will now show:

Press the 8 and 0 keys (80°C):

Press F3 to enter. The display will now show the Third Step:

Set the desired time (e.g. 4 minutes) by digitising 0,0,0, and 4:

Set the desired power of 500 W digitising 5 and 0. The display will now show:

Press F3 to enter.

It is now possible to set the values for Pressure, T (internal) and T (external). The display
will show:
PRESSURE _ b 3/1
(→100) ←F1 F2→ F3=OK

Maximum pressure of Third Step is 10 bar, therefore digit 1 and 0:


PRESSURE 10 b 3/1
(→100) ←F1 F2→ F3=OK

Confirm the input pressing “F3” key; the display will show:

Now digit the keys 2,1 and 0 (210°C):

Press F3 to enter. The display will show:

Set the desired external Temperature T2 880°C) digitising 8 and 0:

Press “F3” to enter. The display will show:

Our program example includes 3 Steps. In the right corner of the display “4/1” will appear.
To proceed from steps 4 through 10 (which are not required in this case) simply press F3
(this way Time=0 is stored and no data entry is required).

The display will show:

Select Rotor CTRL (control) ON only in case the IRTC-500 infrared sensor is installed. If
not installed, leave Rotor CTRL OFF.

The display will show:


TWIST=ON 1

The twist function allows 360° rotation of the rotor, which is required when using the APC-
55 Automatic pressure Control and/or ATC400CE Automatic Temperature Control, to
avoid bending of the PTFE connecting tube between vessel and pressure sensor (APC55)
and/or temperature sensor (ATC400CE).
Press F2 to activate (ON) or disactivate (OFF) the TWIST function.
The default position of twist function is ON.
TWIST=ON 1

Press “F3” to confirm; the display will show:

In our example ventilation time is 1 minute, therefore digit 0,0,0,1 and the display will

Press F3 to confirm and the display will show:

And then:

Start setting of a new digestion program, if required.

HOW TO VISUALIZE A STORED PROGRAM

Switch on the ETHOS D unit as outlined in the previous paragraph.


The display will show:
F1= WORK F2=EDIT

Press the “F2” key; the display will show


EDIT PROGRAM *1
(1-30) ←F1 F2→ F3=OK

The asterisk * indicated that program no. 1 has been stored. Press F3 and the display will
show:
PROGRAM 1 EXIST!
F1=NEW F3=EDIT

Press F3 to visualize in sequence the previously entered program and parameters. If you
want to end visualization, digit STOP; the display will show:
EDIT PROGRAM 1
ABORTED!

Digitising STOP the display will show:

Previous program has been deleted and a new program can be stored. Cancellation of a
program can be verified as no asterisk (*) will appear before the program number.

HOW TO VERIFY DELETING OF A PROGRAM

Digit F3 and the display will show:

NOT FOUND

The display will show “not found” as the program 1 had been previously deleted.
(F1=NEW).

HOW TO USE A STORED PROGRAM

Switch on the unit and the display will show:

And then:

Press the F1 key to activate “WORK” function; the display will show:

Digit the number of the desired program (e.g.1). Confirm the choice of program no.1 by
pushing the F3 key. They display will show:
ROTOR F1 START P1
P=0,0 T1=0 T2=0

WARNING:
In case the ATC400CE (internal temperature) and/or IRTC-500 (external temperature) kits
are installed, the display will respectively show:
T1= Internal temperature of the solution.
T2= External temperature.

In case it is required to control the rotor position inside the microwave cavity, digit F1 and
the display will show:
STOP ROTOR ANY KEY
P=0 T1=0 T2=0

To stop the rotor, digit any key of the keyboard.


Press START to start the program (e.g. no.1) and the display will show.

CHECK AND START

During running of the program, the display shows, step by step, power in Watts, time left
and processing step. Program run can be stopped at any time by pressing the STOP key
or lowering the door handle. Pressing the STOP key, the display will show:
USER BREAK

And subsequently:
PROGRAM IS READY!
POWER IS OFF

In case the program is stopped by lowering the door handle, the 4 built-in safety switched
are activated and the display will show:
DOOR NOT CLOSED

And then:
PROGRAM IS READY!
POWER IS OFF

In both cases (pressing the STOP key or lowering the door handle) to restart the program
it is necessary to press – twice – the START key.

When the display shows:


WORK PROGRAM *1

The F1 and F2 cursors allow selection of the work program sequence 8e.g. upwards from
1 to 2 and then to 3 with F1 and downwards from 3 to 2 and then to 1 with F2).
The sequence runs only for the numbers of the stored programs.

When the display shows:


EDIT PROGRAM 1
(1-30) ←F1 F2→ F3=OK

The F1 and F2 cursors allow to select the program to create.

HOW TO MODIFY A STORED PROGRAM

The display shows:


PROGRAM 1 EXIST!
F1=NEW F3=EDIT

Digit F3 and the display will show:


TIME 00:05:00 1/1
←F1 F2→ F3=OK

Using the F1 and F2 cursors and the number keys, it is possible to modify microwave
emission times, power, parameters P, T1 and T2 in the 10 Steps included in the program.

SETTINGS

Starting from the following position in the software menu:

F1=WORK F2=EDIT

Press . (dot) on the keyboard of the Terminal 20

The display will show:

F1=SYSTEM F2=PRINT
START=PC

Press F1 and the display will show:

DATE: dd.mm.yy
←F1 F2→ F3=OK

Enter the correct date selecting numbers on the keyboard in the following sequence: day.
month. year. The press F3.

The display will show:

TIME hh:mm:ss
←F1 F2→ F3=OK

Enter the correct time selecting numbers on the keyboard in the following sequence:
hours:minutes:seconds. Then press F3.
*The unit is provided with a back-up battery to keep in memory the stored date and time
as well as the microwave digestion programs.

Then the display will show:

PULSE-WIDTH: 50/10 s
1-50 ←F1 F2→ F3=OK

In this page, it is possible to select/change the pulse width of the microwave emission from
1 to 50/10 (tenth) of second. The default value is 50/10 of second.

*This operation requires the Milestone Software Method Development 2.0. To exit this
configuration and return to the main menu, press STOP.

To obtain the best performance for every type of application, it is always recommended to
leave the default seting of 50/10 of second.
Then press STOP.
The display will show:

F1=SYSTEM F2=PRINT
START=PC

F2=PRINT

If the unit is provided with a printer connection (25 pin connector located on the rear
panel), by pressing F2 the data set in the program before digiting the dot “.” will be printed.

If the unit does not have a printer connection, press STOP to return to the main menu.

PC CONFIGURATION

Press START

The display will show:

COMPUTER
ON LINE

This configuration is requested when the Ethos D microwave unit is connected through the
serial port to on external PC for temperature/pressure monitoring and graphics.
