INSIDE OUT CHANGE EPHESIANS 4:17-24 ( NIV)
FOUR IMPORTANT PRINCIPLES FOR CHANGE:
I. FOCUS ON THE TARGET VV.17-20 Living in the futility of their thinking refers to the natural tendency of human beings to think their way away from God. Their intellectual pride and excuses all keep people away from God. To them the gospel seems foolish since they are relying on their own understanding. You should no longer walk as the Gentiles walk Gentiles is a general word referring to pagans, to the lost world. II. CUT ALL TIES TO YOUR FORMER LIFE V. 22 This phrase " put off describes a decisive moment, not a gradual decision. This is not negotiation; this is the end. The verb literally means to strip off. In this verse, what is removed and laid aside is your old self, the you you were before Christ Jesus saved you. III. BE RENEWED IN YOUR MIND V. 23 It means an ongoing, progressive shift is happening in the capacity of the mind to spiritually discern the options and decisions with which we are faced. Being renewed in the spirit of your mind means a new way of thinking is taking root. IV. PUT ON A NEW YOU V. 24 Throw yourselves wholeheartedly and full-timeremember, you've been raised from the dead!into God's way of doing things. Sin can't tell you how to live. After all, you're not living under that old tyrant any longer. You're living in the freedom of God.
