Five Conference Presenters to Receive the SMI-IFSSO Prize for the Social Sciences cont...

IFSSO has organized an Award Selection Committee that will review all of the papers and select the top five best papers. This Committee is composed of Dr. Jean-Christophe Gaillard of the University of Auckland, Dr. Robert Huish of Dalhousie University, and Dr. Nestor Castro of the University of the Philippines. Dr. Castro, also the IFSSO Secretary General, is the official representative of the IFSSO Executive Board in the said Committee. Only those paper presenters who have already submitted copies of their full papers to the IFSSO Secretariat will be eligible for the Prize. The funds for the SMI-IFSSO Prize for the Social Sciences come from Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI), a Philippine mining company that is operated by Xstrata Copper. A representative of SMI will be present during the IFSSO Conference to give the award. The complete program of the IFSSO Conference is available at www.ifsso.net. IFSSO General Assembly to be Held on November 19, 2011

The main agenda of this years General Assembly are: 1) the acceptance and confirmation of new IFSSO members; 2) presentation of the organizational status and activity report for 2009-11; 3) approval of amendments to IFSSOs Statutes and By-laws; and 4) the election of a new Executive Board, which will serve office from 2011 until 2013. The IFSSO General Assembly will be held at the LPU Multimedia Room from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on November 19, 2011. IFSSO is still accepting members to the organization. Membership fees are USD 500 for full member organizations, USD 200 for associate member organizations, and USD 50 for individual members. The membership application form may be downloaded at the Membership Section of the IFSSO website at www.ifsso.net.
IFSSO Member Organizations to Attend AASSREC Conference in Manado

cont... 2. To exchange experiences and knowledge about the challenges and opportunities of transnationalism from a social science perspective, especially with regard to the Asia Pacific; 3. To promote international networking and to establish an understanding of similarities and differences in the direction of trans-nationalism in the Asia Pacific regions; and 4. To provide knowledge and policy-relevant advice in dealing with the many and complex contemporary issues of trans-nationalism. Among the speakers of the conference are Prof. Dr. Neil Smith of the University of New York, North Sulawesi Governor Sinyo H. Sarundajang, and Prof. Dr. Dewi Fortuna Anwar of LIPI. Dr. Aswatini, LIPI Deputy Chairman for Social and Humanities Sciences, is the current President of AASSREC. Dr. Aswatini invited IFSSO to attend the AASSREC conference as a fraternal organization. Several member organizations of IFSSO are also members of AASSREC, among them the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), the Korean Social Science Research Council (KOSSREC), and the Science Council of Japan (SCJ).
NRCP Convenes Division Meeting for the Social Sciences

cont... to the Social Sciences. The main agenda of the meeting was to identify research projects of the Division for 2012 based on the Aquino Administrations Research and Development Priority Areas. The proposals for these research projects will be submitted to the NRCP Governing Board for their approval. Among those who attended the Division Meeting were Dr. Nestor T. Castro and Dr. Michael L. Tan, both from the University of the Philippines Diliman. Prof. Aguilar is also a member of the IFSSO Advisory Council while Dr. Castro is IFSSO Secretary General. Dr. Tan is the Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy of UP Diliman, an Associate Member organization of IFSSO.
