7. Provide feedback Feedback is essentially additional guidance. If the learner has not yet grasped a concept or idea, this is the time to provide more information and different examples. Good feedback should: Provide comments about the students performance Be immediate and frequent Enable students to correct their own mistakes when possible 8. Assess performance At the end of a course, student performance is assessed in order to determine if the desired learning has occurred. Keep in mind that assessments should match the stated objectives in order to provide accurate judgment. 9. Enhance retention and transfer Once the final exam is complete, most students assume that the course is over. However, it is important to help students apply their knowledge to areas outside of the course. To do so, it is a good idea to provide learners with meaningful context in which to use this new knowledge.
Conclusion
The way Gagne's theory is put into practice is as follows. First of all, the instructor determines the objectives of the instruction. These objectives must then be categorized into one of the five domains of learning outcomes. Each of the objectives must be stated in performance terms using one of the standard verbs (i.e. states, discriminates, classifies, etc.) associated with the particular learning outcome. The instructor then uses the conditions of learning for the particular learning outcome to determine the conditions necessary for learning. And finally, the events of instruction necessary to promote the internal process of learning are chosen and put into the lesson plan. The events in essence become the framework for the lesson plan or steps of instruction. (Corry, 1996)
