The Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources hosts the first Climate Change Expo in Kenya.

Nairobi, 13th October 2011.. Climate Change is currently the most serious

threat to sustainable development particularly in the developing nations. It has the potential to impair our efforts towards attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Kenyas Vision 2030 aspirations. In order to build resilience and minimize the impacts of climate change, countries must adopt appropriate technologies and manage environment sustainably. Climate change technologies enhance efficiency in utilization of natural resources and tapping of ubiquitous resources. The Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources has organized the National Climate Change Exhibition which is being held at the K.I.C.C from Thursday 13 th to Saturday 16th. The theme of the exhibition is Kenyans Innovative Response to Climate Change. The Kenya government is keen on integrating Climate Change agenda into national development agenda because climate affects the economic growth of the country. To help us achieve this objective, we have established a climate change secretariat and appointed focal persons to be liaison persons on from relevant government institutions, commented Hon. John Michuki, Minister for Environment and Mineral Resources on the Expo. The Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources (MEMR, in partnership with the Ministry of Planning National Development and Vision 2030, has been in forefront to support the domestication of a dynamic modeling tool called Threshhold-21 Model, as one of the planning and policy decision-making platforms in the country. Through the use of this tool, it is anticipated that the Government will be able to climate-proof its programs and policies and estimate the impact of different development programs under different scenarios in the medium to long-term horizons. The National Climate Change Expo is your opportunity as a responsible citizen to appreciate the available opportunities and technologies to adapt or mitigate the impact of Climate Change. The Expo is aimed at bringing actors in production, distribution and consumption of climate change technologies, added Hon. John Michuki. The National Climate Change exhibition has the objectives of creating awareness at all sectors and levels of society on the plausible climate change scenarios in the country, to display innovative solutions to effects of climate change and to invite and/or develop partnerships towards a climate change resilient Kenya. Speaking during the official opening, the Permanent Secretary MEMR, Mr. Ali D. Mohammed said, The Ministry is committed to raising public awareness and educating on climate change, its impact on livelihoods and the measures that can be taken to adapt to the evolving circumstances. It is with this in mind that we have organized this very important National Climate Change Exhibition.
