Katarinas Son in Kandahar

Many will remember Katarinas Kitchen restaurant on Hwy. 10, or know her from work at Chapmans. But they may not realize Katarina Liposcaks son is currently part of the Canadian presence in Afghanistan. If youre planning on visiting the Kandahar Airfield in southern Afghanistan, youll need to check in with Captain (Capt) Dennis Liposcak and his team. Currently stationed at Kandahar Airfield (KAF), as a member of the Mission Transition Task Force (MTTF), Capt Liposcak is the Second In Command (2IC) Support for the Joint Visits Bureau (JVB) cell. This cell is responsible to assist and administer all visitors to KAF whether they plan to stay for one day or 120 days. As the 2IC Support, he leads a team of professional soldiers that plan, coordinate, and execute various types of visits from senior military commanders, both Canadian and foreign and members of government agencies such

as DFAIT and CIDA. In addition his cell helps support all technical, inspection and assistance visits to aid in the mission closure. Capt Liposcak has a very challenging job at JVB. His cell helps move individuals from one end of the world to another. Once the guests arrive, the team ensures their safety and shares with them an understanding of the uniqueness of the mission. The MTTF has an effective strength of approximately 1,350 military members drawn from Regular and Reserve Forces supported by approximately 435 civilian members. The mission of the MTTF is to conduct mission closure of Operation ATHENA, in southern Afghanistan. This complex and challenging undertaking involves the consolidation, inventory, cleaning, repairing, packing and shipping of thousands of items ranging from main battle tanks to sea containers full of materiel. About 1,000 military vehicles, 12 helicopters and the equivalent of 1,800 sea containers of materiel and equipment will be out of Kandahar, Afghanistan by lot of jobs done on the warm days. At the home of Mark and Ingrid Livingstone, was their son Christopher and daughter Stacey and Brian, twins Kiel and Draven, also brothers Wayne and Chris Voss and family, Manford, Barb and Stephanie Voss, Carl and Pam Voss and family, and Jerven Voss. The weather was so nice and warm, dinner was ou

December 31, 2011. When Capt Liposcak isnt working overseas for JVB, he spends a lot of time visiting his family. His parents, Katarina and Milan Liposcak live on a farm in Proton Station, Ontario. He plans to check in on them at home when he returns from his tour in Afghanistan. Katarina Liposcak works at Chapmans Ice Cream in Markdale, Ontario. Capt Liposcak would stop by to say hello to her at the little cafeteria she runs. She likes to introduce her son to all the wonderful people she works with at Chapmans Ice Cream. Capt Liposcak went to high school at Kipling Collegiate in Etobicoke, Ontario where he met a lot of his life long friends who still live there. He misses playing golf on green grass and spending time with family and friends. (submitted by Captain S.A. BLOOD COUNT.by Robert Goddard Theres no such thing as easy money. As surgeon Edward Hammond is about to find out. Thirteen years ago he performed a life saving operation on Serbian gangster Dragan Gazi. Now Gazi is standing trial for war crimes at the international court in The Hague. After Hammond saved his life, Gazis men went on to slaughter thousands in the Balkan civil wars. Gazis family have a favour to ask: in exchange for keeping Hammonds dirty little secret and a bigger secret he hadnt even realized he was implicated in they want him to find the man who holds the key to all the money Gazi squirreled away before his arrest. But Italian financier Marco Piravani doesnt want to be found, not by Hammond, not by anyone. No sooner has Hammond tracked him down than he disappears again. Hammond has no choice but to set off in pursuit. The trail leads first to The Hague, where he makes an unlikely ally of Gazis former mistress, Zineta Perovic. They head for Italy, in search of Piravani, then Switzerland, where the money may be hidden, before Hammond is forced to return to Belgrade. There he must confront the bloody legacy of Gazis career and his share of the blame for it. Blood Count is not only a brilliant, race against time thriller, but also a penetrating examination of cause and effect. In this novel, every action has a consequence and every question mus-

t have an answer. Only then will Hammond be able to lay the past to rest. The master of the clever twist.
