My Voyage

My name is Tabl Fady, I am twenty two years old and I was born in Constanta, Romania where I currently live and study. I study at the Maritime University of Constanta for a maritime officer career in the future. I chose this profession especially for the upcoming salary but also as a continuation of my familys tradition. My grandfather was a fisherman and my father a maritime officer so, a life at sea. I graduated the Tomis Technical College as a construction technician therefore no previous maritime experience. Unfortunately I do not posess a very technical mind despite my previous education but I am determined to do my best in the profession that I have chosen. My atributtes are intelligence, adaptability, teamwork, desire to learn and the ambition to be the best in my line of work. My flaws are that I am too stubborn and that I get distracted easily. I applied for a cadet position to Tartousi Shipping Company and was accepted on a vessel after an interview with the companys crewing agent. I was assigned on a small vessel, about 2883 tons deadweight that was build in 1977 in Germany, named JSM. JSM is a dry cargo vessel, originally designed as a container vessel it was modified for general cargo purposes, it has one hold with two pneumatic hatches, its length is 74 meters, breadth 13 meters, gross tonnage 1667 tons, net tonnage 995 tons,maximum draft 5.5 meters.

My first voyage started in Constanta, Romania and my first port of arrival will be Damietta, Egypt.My work at start related to the deck preparing and understanding maneuvering.But I managed to get the chief officer to show me a Bill of Lading and it looks as following. B/L No. 1 of 3 (2 and 3 non-negotiable) The cargo described below has been shipped at the Port of CONSTANTA in apparent good order and condition by TARTOUSI SHIPPING CO. on board the vessel..JSM........... for carriage to the Port of DAMIETTA Discharge ...DAMIETTA.. or so near thereto as she may safely get the goods specified below.
