FR. ADRIANS CORNER Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession)

We offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation at our parish on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. and at other times by appointment. If you would like to go to confession please come to the Serra Center and the priests will endeavor to help you celebrate this wonderful sacrament of Gods gentle forgiveness. There are many commitments on Saturdays weddings, funerals, counseling, youth workshops and meetings of all kinds. Saturday is a very hectic day because its the day most people are free and want to see us. For confessions outside the Saturday time, please call the priests directly for an appointment. Phone numbers are posted in the Parish Bulletin. We are happy to accommodate you. Confirmation Program Our first Confirmation Workshop got off to a great start on Saturday last. The Youth Ministry Team was on hand to look after our young people and to make it fun and informative. The theme was, Worship and Praise and Lupe Rios, our Director of Worship at the parish, led us in doing just that. We planned our confirmation program for the year ahead and heard some excellent testimony from older youth on the importance of faith and witness. Candidates for Confirmation in this parish will: 1. Attend Classes on Tuesday nights to learn about their faith. 2. Attend Workshops about once a month on Saturday mornings to look at special themes such as: Prayer, Churchs Teaching on Sexuality, Life Skills, Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation, and more. 3. Take part in a ministry of their choice at the parish, other than Eucharistic Minister and Lector, in order to learn about service in a Catholic Parish. 4. Attend a retreat before Confirmation in 2012.

Smore is less
I caused consternation last week at the Sunday 5:00 p.m. by not knowing the meaning of Smores. Many kind parishioners have filled me in and I could now write a thesis on Smores I know so much!! Have a wonderful and blessed week! The Brother Kelly Cookie sale is over and what a great job by all! We ended up making over $3000 on our last bake sale. We will donate $300 to Fr David at the Old Mission for use of the kitchen. Thank you everyone!

PARISH NEWS & HAPPENINGS

SOCIAL CONCERNS ANNUAL THANKSGIVING FOOD BASKET DRIVE
Its time once again to turn our thoughts and hearts to those in our community who need our help to give their children a Thanksgiving Dinner worth remembering. Sadly, some of these are military families who are already shouldering an incomprehensively heavy burden. Missing a festive family day because of a lack of food should not be added to their load. As always we will screen our applicants to assure only those truly in need get added to our list. We are asking for a donation of $40.00 per family for a basket containing everything that is necessary for a beautiful Thanksgiving dinner. Since we recognize that almost every one has been negatively impacted by the current economic situation we are not setting a specific goal this year. We will do the best we can with what we receive from you. We gladly accept any donations of turkeys, hams, canned goods and other holiday goodies especially home baked cakes, pies and cookies. We would appreciate it if you would please check your cans and eliminate all out-dated, rusted, dented or obviously old cans. We cant give those out and this will save us a lot of time. Checks may be marked food basket and placed in the Sunday collection. If you cannot afford to sponsor an entire family, please give what you can. Food donations may be brought to the Social Concerns Department in the Loretto House across from the McKeon Center during normal parish business hours. Thank you for your loving support of those who are in need and, as always, may God smile gently on you. Call me at 760.547.0708 if you have any questions. Carmen Parra

Library Category: PRAYER

What is prayer? Will it help me? How do you pray? This large category in our library offers a variety of books for guidance and renewal. Thomas H. Greens book, Opening to God, A Guide to Prayer, challenges us to transform our daily routine into a life of prayer. In Listen With the Heart, Sacred Moments in Everyday Life, Sister Joan Chittister teaches us how to appreciate the sacred in each moment by identifying patterns of behavior that can lead to a richer awareness. Beginning Contemplative Prayer, Out of Chaos Into Quiet, by Kathryn J. Hermes, is a guide to the 2000 year old practice of contemplative prayer in the Church. Hermes presents the benefits and meaning of contemplative prayer in a rapidly changing society; practicalities such as finding time & how to better use it; & various types of contemplative prayer.
