Project Abstract

Brief outline of the proposed project in not more than 200 words

The important part of all electrical systems is electrical insulation [1]. Nowadays, many newer insulators are developed by using newer materials. From evaluation, these materials still face the problems of environmental degradation [2]. Because of this issue, it cannot be totally guaranteed that they can sustain for behavior of aging. Hence, some analysis will be considered to verify the quality of the insulator. The analysis is focused at behavior of the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and it can be explained by using formula of Fourier Series and Parseval Theorem [3], [4], [5],. From the testing, the independent variables are flow rate and conductivity of water, and amount of voltage supply. The technique of Response Surface Methodology is used for data analyzing. It is a combination of mathematical and statistical techniques for modeling and analysis of problems. The least squares method is used to estimate the parameters in the approximating polynomial. The fitted surface analysis are approximately equivalent to actual system analysis if the fitted surface sufficiently approximate to the true response function [6], [7]. The second-order Model is used for designing fitting response surface to examine a contour plot of the fitted model. The main purpose of the analysis is to determine the minimum of THD which contribute to produce the good quality of newer composite material insulator.

Problem Statement

Describe the problem which initiates the research question or design ideas in concise terms

The newer insulator materials still suffer with pollution and environment nature. So, it cannot be totally guarantee that they can sustain in environment for long time which cause to behavior of aging. Because of this issue, the aging behavior of new materials insulator have to be analyzed in term of minimize total harmonic distortion in order to guarantee the quality of the insulator by considering the effect from flow rate of water, conductivity of water and voltage supply which produce leakage current.

Objectives

State the objectives to be accomplished in the proposed project in concise terms

1. Find the minimum THD with the specific range of independent variables. 2. Analysis the data of THD with the independent variables by using method
of second-order model of RSM.

3. Determine the minimum THD that contribute the good quality of newer
material insulator tested.

Scopes

Define the limits and constrains of the proposed project that makes the project achievable and realistic

The testing of insulation is doing in high voltage laboratory at Faculty of Electrical Engineering, UTeM. The testing comes out with the distortion waveform when varying the values of three factors within specific range. So the data are evaluated in term of total harmonic distortion. The project are focused on analyze the data by using statistical method of response surface methodology and MATLAB is used as tool of the analysis. This analysis is provided in order to achieve the main purpose of determining the minimum THD which yield the good insulation characteristic.

Expected Results

Discuss the expected results of the proposed project. Use additional sheets if necessary.

Base on my effort, I able to finish this project successfully by guidance from supervisor and following the project and research methodology. The most important values are from my own self based on factors of hardworking, good commitment, doing a lot of researching and also using the critical thinking for problem solving. So from these all values and guidance by supervisor, the purpose of the project for determining the range of optimum THD in order to guarantee the quality of new material insulator will be achieved. Besides that, the project is managed within the period given so that it can be finished on time.
