A FOCUS ON GOODYEAR Goodyear Rubber and Tire Company, one of the leading tyre manufacturers in the world, started its operations in India in 1922. To sustain the India growing transportation industry, it is necessary to create a favorable business environment. Regarding the Tyre sector, the Convenor of the Tyre Dealers' Federation, Mr S.P. Singh, accused domestic manufacturers of acting as an oligopolistic cartel. In recent weeks, several hearings before Competition Commission of India took place. Sources close to the case claimed that a conclusion to this matter should be reached very soon from the Director General Investigation. It would appear, but it has still to be confirmed, that some ATMA members have been found orchestrating periodic hike on tyres. If such allegation would be proven, potential impacts on the Tyre market, and in general transportation development, would be massive. Stay tuned and react on ITP!

A FOCUS ON MRF MRF India, the largest manufacturer of tyres in India, started small as Madras Rubber Factory in Madras, now Chennai, in 1946. Madras Rubber Factory operated from a nine-acre factory, with a small shed and no machinery, to produce toy balloons. In 1952 Madras Rubber Factory ventured into tread rubber manufacturing and quickly gained 50% of the market share because of the superior quality of its product. After the success of tread rubber, Madras Rubber Factory entered into manufacturing tyres in 1961. BUILD 20KMS OF ROAD PER DAY, PROMISES ROAD AND HIGHWAYS MINISTER In 2009, the then Road Transport and Highways Minister, Kamal Nath, announced plans to build 20Kms of road per day by April 2010. The announcement promised a quantum leap from the 2-3Kms of road per day rate. The decision came in view to support the national economic growth. With the rising number of train accidents in India, Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, has announced a safety plan for the Railways. According to a source in the Railway Ministry, A detailed safety plan is being readied to be submitted to the Prime Minister's Office shortly. The Prime Minister sought detailed report after HowrahKalka Mail was derailed on the 10th July this year where 69 passengers died and almost 240 were injured. More information on ITP

TRAVELLING BY LOCAL TRAINS IN MUMBAI The most efficient mode of connectivity in and around the city of Mumbai is through its railways services. The city has three major railways lines namely Central line, Western line and Harbour line. Timeconstrained people of Mumbai celebrate their fastest local train which has a speed of 130 kilometres per hour. This train was built by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai under the administration of Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC). An official involved with the project stated that while trains in suburban areas reach a speed of 80 kmph to 100 kmph, the new trains will be much faster. More information on ITP
