To sustain the India growing transportation industry, it is necessary to create a favorable business environment. Regarding the Tyre sector, the Convenor of the Tyre Dealers' Federation, Mr S.P. Singh, accused domestic manufacturers of acting as an oligopolistic cartel. In recent weeks, several hearings before Competition Commission of India took place. Sources close to the case claimed that a conclusion to this matter should be reached very soon from the Director General Investigation. It would appear, but it has still to be confirmed, that some ATMA members have been found orchestrating periodic hike on tyres. If such allegation would be proven, potential impacts on the Tyre market, and in general transportation development, would be massive. Stay tuned and react on ITP!
A FOCUS ON MRF MRF India, the largest manufacturer of tyres in India, started small as Madras Rubber Factory in Madras, now Chennai, in 1946. Madras Rubber Factory operated from a nine-acre factory, with a small shed and no machinery, to produce toy balloons. In 1952 Madras Rubber Factory ventured into tread rubber manufacturing and quickly gained 50% of the market share because of the superior quality of its product. After the success of tread rubber, Madras Rubber Factory entered into manufacturing tyres in 1961. However today, India is gradually becoming the largest rubber product exporter, thanks to the economic reforms and policies chalked out by the Indian Government coupled with market integration ushered in by Regional Trade Agreements/World Trade Organization. With the rising number of train accidents in India, Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, has announced a safety plan for the Railways. According to a source in the Railway Ministry, A detailed safety plan is being readied to be submitted to the Prime Minister's Office shortly. The Prime Minister sought detailed report after HowrahKalka Mail was derailed on the 10th July this year where 69 passengers died and almost 240 were injured. More information on ITP
TRAVELLING BY LOCAL TRAINS IN MUMBAI The most efficient mode of connectivity in and around the city of Mumbai is through its railways services. The city has three major railways lines namely Central line, Western line and Harbour line. Timeconstrained people of Mumbai celebrate their fastest local train which has a speed of 130 kilometres per hour. This train was built by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai under the administration of Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC). An official involved with the project stated that while trains in suburban areas reach a speed of 80 kmph to 100 kmph, the new trains will be much faster. More information on ITP

HIKE IN DIESEL PRICES HIT THE INDIAN TRANSPORT SYSTEM The spiralling cost of diesel prices has been a major concern for India, as it has adversely affected the countrys transport system in recent times. This perennial problem will no doubt have a snowball effect and is bound to impact on other vital sectors of the economy. More information on ITP LPG NEW FUEL FOR INDIAN AUTOMOBILES Liquid Petroleum Gas or LPG is fast becoming an alternative fuel option for automobiles in India. LPG is a mixture of hydrocarbon gases such as propane or butane and can be used effectively to run vehicles. It is a clean burning fossil fuel and produces fewer toxic and smog-forming pollutants when burned. LPG is one of the cheapest fuels available in India and is very cost effective when compared to the highly priced petrol and diesel. More information on ITP
